Course Curriculum Overview

2

The curriculum is fine, we study all the subjects relevant to electrical engineering but no new industry-needed subjects. Practicals are very undervalued with nobody taking them seriously. The lab situation is terrible, no explanation is given as to why we perform the experiment, how to perform the experiment and how is it relevant to the subjects. Overall we learn nothing from practicals. Teachers are also not good at teaching. In Sessionals, marks can be obtained by teachers class notes but final exams are a hit or a miss. There are 3 exams for theory subjects: Minor 1, Minor 2 and Final. Minor are best of 2 for 30 marks. Final for 50 marks and 20 marks internal including assignment and quiz. It's really hard to get good grades. The semester is shorter than 6 months and there a lot of bunks which is quite nice.

Internships Opportunities

4

There are multiple clubs where you can participate in projects and even get stipends for them, few of them include a design and innovation centre where you work on innovative projects and get a stipend they are also many students working under professors on research papers and projects. The multiple companies that sponsor clubs to work on projects. You can join these clubs with no prior experience and get a lot of learning

Placement Experience

2.5

Placements are fine if you are into software and want to go to IT side however very few students are eligible for placements as many students have reappears and low CGPA and many don't have any skill. It's vary hard to get placed in core companies only a couple of students from each branch get to core companies with good package. My placement drive have not yet started but from hearing from seniors placement record have gone down significantly.

Fees and Financial Aid

We have an overall tuition fees between 1 lakh and 1,10,000 per year which we pay in two installments first being around 71000 and the second one being around 35000. Apart from this we have to pay 3000 approximately for each examination form per semester. And hostel charges are different. Student belonging to EWS category can apply for scholarship and reduce their fees to less than 30000 per year.

Campus Life

4

There are Multiple clubs that you can take part in for student from every branch fee of them could include EDC, IEEE, Toolbox, SAE, DIC etc. these are run by students and funded by Panjab University. There are multiple events that happen every second day here example DJs, Dancing and Talent show near canteen and are open to all. The fest "Goonj" is quite good with singer concert and standup comedy and multiple stalls. Since we are in the PU campus, we attend fest for other departments too and the college life is overall very fun and full of opportunities and learning. A student of Panjab University always have a good campus life

Admission

I gave PULEET exam to get admission through lateral entry in 2nd year after completing my diploma. There is no boundation about the branch whether you did 3 year diploma in any field you can get admission in any branch in BE. I got rank 9 in PULEET exam. However didn't get many good options. Since I did diploma in electronics engineering I was hoping to get ECE branch in UIET, however I was offered ECE in CCET and finally EEE(Electrical and Electronics engineering) at UIET in 2nd counselling. The seats are first offered to students of PUMEET then remaining to PULEET. Reserve category can still get good options but open seats don't have much options. Application form and fees is uploaded on the website which opens near announcement. Exam is conducted one's a year and is quite difficult diploma students get first rank for marks below 30. And forget CSE AND IT branch only 3-4 students get them through PULEET.

The students become eligible for placements after their sixth semester. Many companies visit PEC some of the top recruiters are Uber,Microsoft,JP Morgan,Goldman Sachs,Texas Instruments,Cisco,American Express and many more. This year the highest package was 61 lpa given to 3 students from circuital branches,6 students received offer of 52 lpa. The average CTC was 13.6 lpa and specifically about ECE it was 15.6 lpa. 456 out of 694 students were placed which is a placement rate of 65.7% including PPOs from companies. My plans would be to get placed with a good package .

Placement Experience:

You can appear for placements starting from 7th semester onwards plus you can apply yourself as well to various off-campus opportunities. The companies which visit are decent i would say including the likes of Amazon, Deloitte, Hero came as well few years ago for mechanical engineers. Around 50-60 decent companies visit the college for placement with around 300 job offers with the highest package around 41 lpa which was off campus probably but Amazon could give upto 25-30 lpa i guess, The average package would be around 7 lpa i guess but its gonna improve year by year. If you are in CSE or IT you are most chilled with around 80% placements, in ECE as well there are decent placements but after that you have to study really well to get placed But you can always do a lot of things after getting your degree.

Remarks:

I chose this because of the brand of Panjab University. Plus you get a lot of exposure of Chandigarh and there are a lot of opportunities there based on your field, even better than Delhi. Plus you never get distracted in Chandigarh because of the reason that people are too much work and ethics focused. Also, the level of knowledge the teachers have in my college is just great.
