Course Curriculum Overview

5

Being in the first year I feel the course is very well structured and it is quite wholesome including the subjects of all the domains and branches..we even have an ELC activity[Experiment Learning Curiculum] designed to make us familiar with our respective branches and prepare for the current industrial scenario. There are Mid-semester exams and End semester exams held during a tenure of 6 months which makes 1 complete sem. If studied well the exams are quite easy to crack.

Internships Opportunities

4

As far as internships are concerned companies do visit to make students interns even offering them a pre-placement offer (PPO) according to their work profile.A good resume and a linkedin is necessary along with the desired skill set to get interned.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placements are quite decent i.e. of 12-14lac/annum around 300 companies visit the campus for placements and the percentage of students getting placed is also great neatly about 94-98%. The highest packages are often associated with the branch a person has.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are often dependent on the fact that which branch the person has opted for if a person opts for COE[comp engineering] then the fees would be high as compared to a person studying Mechanical. In our college for an idea, 20-30 lakh is the cost for an entire B.Tech degree. There are several scholarships based on financial aid and even on the Basis of Merits.

Campus Life

5

Well, to say about the campus Thapar provides a great atmosphere to develop as an individual having facilities for all the extra activities. SAT is the tech fest held every year inviting artists from different domains as well as the students from different colleges it is held in the month of Nov our library on the contrary is Asia's 7th largest in terms of area and the high quality of material which it provides. Overall our college provides a perfect exposure for a being which is needed.

Hostel Facilities

5

In the first year we have the provision to either opt for a 4 seater or a 2 seater room based on the jee score/boards.The meals made our rich in nutrients and the hygiene is kept in mind very well. The registration process was easy and comfortable for the hostel allotment.

Admission

The process of admission was simple. The time when the forms were out on the official website we had to fill in the details. No such entrance exam was conducted, the eligibility was checked either on the basis of the board percentage or the Jee percentile. I felt the process was easy to go through and I didn't feel any improvement was necessary.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
