Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The curriculum or syllabus is quite updated. Subjects like Innovation and entrepreneurship also taught to every branch. You will get the whole knowledge about your branch and maybe a little extra. Curriculum is somewhat based on real world but not completely but that's what taught in all engineering colleges all over India. A typical core subject is divided into 3 segments lectures, tutorials and labs. Average duration of a semester in Tiet is around 4-5 months which is a little less to be honest. For exams we have lab evals , quizzes, mid term exams and end term exams. Gap between mst and est is around 1 month and if you have any fest coming up you can get a little stressed

Internships Opportunities

3

Thapar organize internship fairs in which many companies, startup etc. came with many intership oppertunities. Also you can get updated if there is any opportunity for the internship through your mail. Many students get pregnant placement offers from these interships Although thapar can't guarantee a internship but it helps accordingly

Placement Experience

3.5

If no placement is offered, then basically it is upon the student his/her skill set and all. In thapar if u study just well ( not hard) u can grab a decent placement, around 70% students get in campus placements. Around few years thapar also produced some entrepreneurs. As i said before many big companies visit the campus for placement. Highest package offered in thapar is around 50 lpa.

Fees and Financial Aid

Tution fee is around 2 lacs per semester. It takes around 25-30 lacs for completion of you undergraduate degree in Bachelor of engineering. Thapar also have scholarships based on merits, financial needs and others. For full information regarding the scholarship you can visit the thapar official site that is thapar.edu , as a student of thapar I can say you can get the right information regarding scholarship there. As Tiet is an old institute that's why it has some reputation so it's placement are decent Many companies and MNCs come here to hire students, but in past 2-3 years the placements are getting a little bad

Campus Life

4.5

Thapar has one of the most beautiful campus. Campus is around 250 acres, so yeah it's pretty big. Thapar have all the sports facilities availabl including swimming pool. The annual fest of thapar is Staurnalia which is held in October or November mostly. It's a three day event including many co curricular activities and tech. Events also and on the final day there is the artist night. In short Staurnalia is a fun event many college come to take part in it. Thapar also have many societies, clubs and chapters. You can join any based on your interest

Hostel Facilities

4

Thapar have around 20 hostels. Both boys and girls, of course seperate hostels. Hostel have 4 seaters rooms , 3 seaters, 2 seaters and single seaters room. Some hostel have attached washroom and bathroom and some have common. Mess food is average, one bad thing about mess only serve vegetarian food. So, in short hostels are ok

Admission

The admission process is Thapar institute of technology (Tiet) is actually quite simple, you don't have to give any exam for admission. Just fill a form which is available on thapar official site that is Thapar.edu . Form costs around 1500 and 4000 for foreign students. You get selected based on the merit. Eligibility criteria for B.E are yours respective board marks and you JEE main percentile and if you want to apply for biotech engg. Your neet marks or rank will be required. As Tiet is in patiala, punjab so punjabi students have almost around 50% reservations. For other states ST, OBC SC and EWS students there is reservation also. Although admission process is quite simple but it takes a lot of time during your counciling

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
