Course Curriculum Overview
Electrical and Computer Engineering at Thapar University is a great course. It's a hybrid course as both Electrical and Computer related subjects are taught. The curriculum at Thapar is very advanced and revolves around real-life applications. All the necessary labs and equipment are available and are up to date. The faculty and other staff are very good and approachable.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are given to students on the basis of their CGPA. Students can apply for internships in various tech and non tech companies based on their skill and interest. Role os given to an intern on the basis of skill level.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placement after 6th semester. Various technical companies and core branch-related companies visit every year during placements. Companies visiting include Adobe, Accenture, Airbnb, Bajaj, Orient, TCS etc. Students who aim for placements and are eligible for it get placement. My aim is to get a good on-campus placement.
Fees and Financial Aid
The overall academic fees per semester vary from 1.8L to 2.6L (different for different courses). Scholarships are available for brilliant students. If you have more than 90 per cent in boards(PCM) and more than 90 percentile in JEE Mains then you only have to pay half of your tution fees in that particular semester. Also, you need to have more than an 8.5 CGPA to keep continuing the scholarship. If you have scored good marks in boards/JEE Mains and you still opted for Core branches then you will get 30 per cent off in your tuition fee.
Campus Life
Life at Thapar University is amazing. The Patiala campus is very big and equally beautiful. Places like Jaggi, Cos, Nirvana park and Thapar's famous sky walk are inside the campus to roam around with your friends. Sports facilities are also provided inside the campus which includes a synthetic running track, swimming pool, cricket and football ground; basketball, badminton and tennis courts. There are more than 30 societies which include technical, non-technical and cultural societies. Thapar's Annual Fest Saturnallia is held in November every year and Annual Sports Fest id held in February every year. Thapar University has both newly-built classrooms and also old-type classrooms. But all the classes are provided with projectors. Nava Nalanda Central Library has all the necessary books and has all the required facilities.
Hostel Facilities
Thapar has 9 boys and 7 girls hostel. Some hostels have Sodexo mess and some have Thapar owned mess. Food quality in the mess is average to good. There are single shared and also sharing rooms available for both boys and girls. Hostel fees range between 35k to 70k per semester.
Admission
The admission process at TU is very smooth. To be eligible you must have cleared the 12th board exam with a minimum of 70 per cent in PCM and must have appeared ithe n the JEE Mains exam. The admission is done based on both JEE and board exams. Branches are allocated to students based on their marks. The cut-off for computer science is generally 98 percentile(JEE Mains), 97 per cent approx in boards for outside Punjab students and a bit less for home-state students. Cut-off varies in later rounds. Initial rounds of counselling are done in online mode. The final round is done in offline mode. The application form is available on the official website of Thapar (admission.thapar.edu). Application dates generally start in April. There is some relaxation in cut-offs for home state(Punjab) students. There is no entrance test except the December Test which is for the direct admission of students in the second semester. The level of exam is easier than JEE Mains and is held once only
