Exploring IIT Kharagpur: A Journey!

The course curriculum at IIT Kharagpur is well-respected for being useful and thorough. It helped me decide to choose this course because it combines theory with practical learning. It prepares students well for real-life situations and further studies by partnering with industries and offering research chances. To improve, the curriculum could add more projects linking different subjects and update content regularly. Exams are tough but fair, and they allow enough time to prepare. Yet, adding practical assessments could make learning better.

Internship opportunities at IIT Kharagpur are extensive, with companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Goldman Sachs offering roles in software development, data analysis, marketing, and research. Stipends range from INR 30,000 to INR 1,50,000 per month. Interns work on projects spanning software development, data analysis, market research, and design, producing prototypes, reports, strategies, and research papers, enhancing both academic and practical skills.

IIT Kharagpur's placement record is commendable. Students become eligible for campus placements from the sixth semester onwards. Renowned companies like Google, Microsoft, and Goldman Sachs visit the campus, offering a plethora of roles across domains. The highest package offered is INR 4 crores per annum, with an average package around INR 20 lakhs per annum. The placement percentage is typically high, with a significant portion of students securing job offers. For those not opting for campus placements, various avenues exist post-graduation. Many pursue higher studies, while others venture into entrepreneurship or seek employment through off-campus channels. Personally, I plan to explore opportunities in my field of interest, possibly aiming for higher studies or industry roles aligned with my career aspirations.

At IIT Kharagpur, fees cover tuition, hostel, mess, and other compulsory charges. Tuition fee amounts to Rs. 2,00,000 per year. The other expenses make for about Rs. 80,000. Thus, the total annual fee is around 2.8 lakh without any financial assistance. Scholarships and financial aid are available to students. Scholarships vary in amount and type, mostly based on the income of the family.

At IIT Kharagpur, campus life is vibrant and enriching. Socially, annual festivals like "Spring Fest" and "Kshitij" in January and February bring the community together. The library offers extensive resources with accessible books and journals. Classrooms are well-equipped with modern facilities and technology. Sports facilities cater to various interests, promoting a healthy lifestyle. Extracurricular activities encompass diverse interests, from music to robotics. Student-run clubs and cells enhance social engagement and skill development, enriching overall student experience.

The hostel facility at IIT Kharagpur offers well-equipped rooms with essential amenities like beds, study tables, and storage space. Common facilities include Wi-Fi, laundry, and recreational areas. Meal quality and variety in the mess are generally satisfactory, offering diverse menus catering to different dietary preferences.

For undergraduate programs, eligibility is primarily based on clearing the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. The application forms for JEE Main and JEE Advanced are available online on the official websites of the conducting bodies. Candidates need to fill out personal details, academic qualifications, and other relevant information. Application fees vary for different categories of candidates. Cut-offs for JEE Advanced are determined based on the performance of candidates in the exam. JEE Main is conducted twice a year, usually in January and April. JEE Advanced is conducted once a year, typically in May. The difficulty level of JEE Main and JEE Advanced is notably high, requiring rigorous preparation and a deep understanding of core concepts in physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
