Course Curriculum Overview

3

The faculty members are a mixed bag, many are highly qualified in their field but unskillful in teaching. The student faculty ratio is about 20:1 .Course curriculum is rigorous with frequent CTs, viva and assignments. The infrastructure of the class and labs are not good due to lack of funds and skilled personnel at all levels. The exams are difficult to pass because the concepts are not taught in an organized manner and a large knowledge gap between the faculty and students.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Samsung, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft HUL etc offer internships to Jadavpur University students in many roles such as webdev, financial analyst, tester etc. The median stipend varies between 0.6 to 1.5 LPA. Students can also get research internships at Jadavpur or at other colleges like IITs and IISC.

Placement Experience

4.5

Students are eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester. The placement cell of Jadavpur University is phenomenal boasting a placement percentage of 95% despite the global recession in with average package being 11 LPA for Chemical Engineering. Top recruiters from tech include Adobe, Amazon, Google, IBM. Recruiters from finance and consultancy are Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, Deloitte. Top recruiters from core are IOCL, TATA, ITC, Reliance. Highest package offered was 1.8 Cr. 2023 placements was concluded with 1200 offers and more than 1000 students were recruited. I personally have not thought of placements, I want to pursue Entrepreneurship to make a significant impact on society.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees structure is an exceptional trait of Jadavpur University. The total fees for 4 years is about Rs 11000 for all courses except IT. For IT the fees is Rs 30000 annually. Hostel fees is Rs 25 per month including food and accomodation. There is generally no need for financial assistance , but still there are opportunities like freeship program and central and state scholarships (like SVMCM). There is generally no scope for campus jobs as University lacks funds.

Campus Life

3

Campus is always alive and buzzing with activity. There 6 canteens, union rooms, playground ,gym, badminton court in the campus are sure to keep you engaged. Annual Cultural Fest Sanskriti and annual Techno-management fest Srijan are conducted every year. There are many other big events occurring all round the year like HULT Prize, U-Turn, CIIPPUS, Dial M etc. Library is clean, organized and has excellent availability of books on all subjects. There are many student run clubs in catering to students of all interest like Photography club, Mountaineering club, Music club, Entrepreneurship Cell etc . One thing to be pointed out is that many student organized events are very politically biased.

Admission

Students who have cleared WBJEE and passed 10th and 12th boards from Science stream with at least 60% in PCM are eligible to apply for admission at Jadavpur University. The cutoff for Jadavpur university in 2023 for home state category is 6072. Seat is allocated on the basis of choice filling and seat acceptance fee of Rs 5000 was paid to lock the seat. Students with confirmed seat at Jadavpur University had to physically come to the college for document verification and to sit for 2nd round and Mop Up. Admission fees of Rs 710 was paid at 05/09/23 subsequently confirming the admission. Later Decentralised counselling was held in order to fill up the seats still left vacant. Candidates had to visit WBJEE website (WBJEE) and Jadavpur University Website( Jadavpur University ) regularly for important updates regarding counselling. There was disorganization and long delays due to the large number of students present. Computer based counselling would have been better.

Studentsbecome eligible for placements from 7th semester. Various companies such as TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Godrej, etc. come for placements. Earlier many offers used to come however in the recent years the number of offers made have reduced significantly. highest package comes around 10 to 11 lakhs per annum with average being 4-5 lakhs per annum. I have kept my options open after completion of degree in doing further studies that is Mtech or getting into a job whichever seems appropriate at the situation.

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
