Jadavpur University could possibly be the best thing that happened to me.

Jadavpur University is a place where you get to choose what you want to be.Instead of being pushed into a rote schedule we are constantly encouraged to explore ourselves.There is a freedom to be who you are.There are people who bag hefty salaries in the big MNCs, and then there are people who become good writers musicians after discovering their dormant traits.It's as diverse as can be.But overall I do feel it molds you as a person, you get to realist what you really are, and how do you go further.It epitomizes what ideally a college should stand for.I grew exponentially, both as a person and as a student.And the best part is the peer group.It is quite a cosmopolitan mix.There are people from various cultural and social backgrounds, and interacting with such a diverse mix helps you really adapt.And as for studies, and placements I've had the fortune of interacting with a fantastic bunch of seniors who'll literally mentor you.The entire college is nothing short of an extended family, wi

WBJEE. I ended up here by securing a rank in WBJEE 2015. There was no interview process,rank was the sole criteria. I chose Information Technology (since I didn't get Computer Science which was my first choice) since I liked tinkering with computers and had a limited knowledge on repairing them,over time this bond with computers extended to programming and I decided to pursue this interest further, as a career.

The course I had opted for was a Bachelors(B.E.) in Information Technology.To be honest not a whole lot of the syllabus(till my current year at least which is the third year) is focused on Practical Learning.The theoretical aspects are however rigorously established with a decent focus on algorithms,OOP and Mathematics.

Many of the companies that come for placement also hire interns, like Amazon, Microsoft,Goldman Sachs, GE Digital, PWC, Samsung, Salesforce,Texas Instruments,Siemens,etc. I have secured an internship at Amazon,but am yet to start it. The average stipend amount is INR 40000.

The placement is excellent,especially in CS and IT.Overall, about 95% of the students get placed and those that don't mostly don't sit for placements due to higher studies. Some of the companies that visit us: Amazon,Microsoft,Samsung,Goldman Sachs,DE Shaw,Texas Instruments,Shell,Ernst and Young,Sales force,Qualcomm,PWC,Adobe,Visa,GE Digital,Deutsche Bank,SAP Labs,ZS Associates,SAP Labs,Amadeus,Synopsys,Oracle,TATA Power,TATA Steel,Maruti,Honda,Honeywell,Philips,Siemens,CESC,Hero, C-DOT and many others. The average package for the whole college would be around 6-7 lakhs.For CS/IT it's 11-12 lakhs.

The college holds an annual cultural function called Sanskrit i which attracts a lot of local as well as non-local talent,especially in performing arts. The college lays a high emphasis on creative expression and it reflects positively in the fests.The average footfall easily exceeds several thousands.It is held for a week. The technical fest is called Srijan and it too attracts a lot of sponsors.It is a 3 day fest with lots of coding robotics and gaming events. There is no contribution from the authorities whatsoever.

The fees for BE IT is 30000 INR per year. For other BE departments it is 2400 INR per year. Tuition Fees 6000 Session Fees 50 Lab/WS Fees 24000 Exam and Grade Card Fees 500 Total Amount (In Figures) 30,550.00

The college provides full and partial tuition fee reimbursement for the needy.Moreover there is a Alumni Association, a charity trust run by alumni which provides extra monetary aid to those requiring it.

The college is literally teeming with extracurricular activities.Football Cricket Badminton and tons of other outdoor sports events are frequently organised. Quizzing, Photography, Dance, Science, Robotics Coding, mountaineering have their own clubs.

The hostels were single rooms with high speed internet connection.The food is below average though. The monthly cost for living is INR 25(for accommodation)+ INR 1500 approx(food).

The single biggest strength that the college has, according to me, has to be it's alumni.From politics to television to literature to economy to industry. JU alumni are pretty much everywhere. A major reason behind the good placement is due to the fact that JU has an extensive alumni network and hence high reaches in the tech industry.

The semester exams occurred twice a year with an internal evaluation(class tests) occurring twice every semester,ie 4 per year.They are quite evenly spaced and hence not an issue. There are 3 labs per week,each of 3 hours.Quite a relaxed affair overall.

The Faculty , for the most part , was quite qualified with most of them PHD holders in their respective specializations, most are quite friendly helpful and supportive in research pursuits.They are quite keen on teaching. Attendance isn't compulsory per se,but teachers are quite insistent on taking regular classes and ensuring that the syllabus is covered in complete detail.Extra classes are available for those willing,and they willingly organised private interactions via mail,or in person to clear doubts.
