Course Curriculum Overview
I had selected the Information Technology stream because I wanted to learn about computer science but I was not eligible to take admission in that course. Our class strength is 70 and the teachers' strength in our department is roughly 20. The course curriculum is not up to the standard. Most of the computers in the labs do not function properly. Although almost all of the teachers have a PhD, they are either not able to effectively communicate their ideas or make the class less interactive. We have four class assignments (two as class tests and two as online assignments) and then exams (both practical and theory included) per semester. The exam level is based on what is taught in the class and a student is passed the exams if they have gone through the class notes.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like Chegg, IBM, Microsoft, Capgemini, TCS, etc offer internship opportunities in my college. The roles that they offer are- Software developer, advertising, human resource, marketing, etc. On completion of the internship period, the companies offer PPOs, Letters of Recommendation and stipends based on the internship type.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee for the first year is 45000 INR per semester. For the second year, the fee is 46000 INR per semester. For the third and fourth years, the fee is 47000 INR per semester and 48000 per semester respectively. Apart from this, we have to pay 1200 INR per semester as exam fee. In short, the combined course fee is roughly 4 lac INR. There are multiple scholarships that can be benefited from like- the WBSCC scheme. I am currently in my third year and I have not received any scholarship, financial aid, internship or job opportunities from the campus.
Campus Life
We have one annual cultural fest named "Utopia" and one annual tech fest. They are conducted in the months of January and December respectively. There are books based on the courses offered by the college but there is also a shortage of books which is not related to academics. The college library also has multiple journals, newspapers and magazines. Now, I have not given much attention to this part, so I will not get into the specifics. Cricket, basketball and badminton are played by most of the students. Games like table tennis, carrom and chess are also available on the campus. There are a few student clubs in the college-RISERS CLUB, which is a social club, THE CODERS CLUB and THE STARTUP CLUB which offers technical and entrepreneurial opportunities and guidance.
Admission
I got admission to this college via WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam) counselling. Students who secured a rank of 45000 - 60000 are eligible for admission to this college. This institute offers various streams: CSE, CSE(DS), IT, AUE, EE, ECE, EC-VLSI and ME. The fee for this course is 47000 INR per semester and overall the total course fee comes to nearly 4 lac INR. The admission process begins with the counselling of the WBJEE. Nearly 75% of the seats are reserved for students from West Bengal. A student can get direct admission if they want to explore the ME or AUE streams. The admission process is a bit slow which adds stress to the students' minds.
Other Applied Colleges
Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT University] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
I did not apply for this college because it was very far from my home and it was too expensive for me.
