Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose this course as I was most interested in Geography as I was from an Arts background. So, for me B.A. (Hons.) Geography was my only course to pursue. As I had heard KMC has one of the finest Geography Departments in India and it's in the North Campus as well with a NIRF ranking of 9. It was easy for me to finalize KMC as my dream college. The faculty is highly qualified and our department classes are also very nice with AC! All the professors are very approachable and make studying geography easy and comfortable. The student ratio is also almost equal-equal. Exams and tests are conducted regularly with a good difficulty level but the professors teach us in a manner that we are able to solve any test paper if we have attended the classes obviously.

Internships Opportunities

4

There is a dedicated society for this called Avenues - The Placement Cell. It helps in developing the skill for coordinating with the companies and making the placements happen. As I'm in 1st Year I don't have much experience in getting an internship or anything like that.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees to me are not much but I can understand that for some students the fee hike could affect them. The cost to study is also not a lot as KMC is a government college, for our geography practicals we're provided with the sheets by the department only. No Scholarship or Financial assistance received yet. B.A. (H) in Political Science, History, and Geography don't usually get placements as well.

Campus Life

5

Life at KMC is great if you're a person who comes to college. Social Life is supposed to be interesting as in KMC you'll meet a diverse range of people coming from all parts of our country. Fests and small programs are conducted every month. A lot of books are available in our Library. Classrooms are great, although not all classrooms have AC. Sports & extracurricular are encouraged a lot and there are a variety of societies, there is something for everyone. There are many societies run by students themselves.

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostel Facility is great here in KMC, A Hostel is like living almost free of cost, the annual fee of the Hostel is Rs. 54,000. Facilities like a Fan, Tube Light, Study Table, Study Table Lamp Light, Bed, and Almirah are provided in the room. The meal quality is top notch with a diverse Menu, not repeating anything in a week. The registration process of the Hostel is also very simple, we just have to fill out one form and the allocation is done on the basis of our CUET Score. Roughly, every course has 2-3 seats in Hostel. SC, ST, Sports, Sikkim, PMSSS, and PwD have reserved seats as well.

Admission

As Kirori Mal College is a part of the University of Delhi, to get admission to DU we all have to take an entrance exam called CUET. I also gave the CUET UG entrance exam. All the application process and eligibility details were provided on the CUET website in a very detailed manner. As I have the course B.A. (Hons.) In geography, my eligibility was to give exams in 1 language + 3 Domain subjects which I studied in 12th as well. Reservation benefits depend on the college to college, for this, we must check the Seat Matrix released by the University of Delhi to check any respective category seats in any respective college. Application fees were very nominal and dates were also arranged in a manner where we had ample amount of time. I scored 770/800 and secured my admission in the Unreserved category so you guys can make out that hoe much cutoff is required for a B.A. (Hons.) Geographic in KMC although this slightly changes every academic year.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
