Life in GECT ( Government Engineering College Thrissur)

I have choosen this course as I have done my bachelor's in electrical engineering. So there are two courses related to my bachelor's in this college; one is power electronics and the other is power systems. As I am more interested in the distribution and transmission of electrical energy I have choosen power systems. In masters there are 18 students in our class; faculties will be around 30. You will get one teacher during your entire course for teaching assistance. And the qualification of the teachers is most of them phd and otherwise masters level. Teaching will be in such a way that they will take lecture classes and for more information you can make use of the library. Term exams will be there at the correct time and it is of moderate level. If you know the concepts you can easily score high marks

Internship opportunities are fewer in our college. Because our university follows a rule where the student has to be there in the college for 4 semesters. But if you want to do an internship for 15 days you will get it with prior permission. Dell is providing internships for masters students where you can do your project there. Stipend offered is 6000 per month

A lot of campus placements will be there in our college. Most of them are IT based. For core fields like electrical engineering, placements are less. But if you are having higher cgpa you can easily get into the core field. You will be eligible for placements at the start of 3rd semester. Placements will continue till the end of 4 th semester. Companies like Infosys, tcs, wipro, and Cognizant will take around 250 candidates from the whole college. Core companies will take 2 or 3 from each branch. The highest package offered is 12 lakh per annum for postgraduate engineer trainee roles and the average package is 5 lakh for analyst roles. Around 75 per cent of students get placed in any of the companies either in IT or core. My plan is to get into a core company where I can utilise my engineering skills

The fee structure is on a semester basis. There are 4 semesters. So you have to pay 10000 per semester. Fees may remain the same for four semesters. And you are allowed to apply for a scholarship there. If you have gate rank you will get a scholarship from the central government of rs 12500 per month otherwise you will be eligible for grants where you dont want to pay the fee by yourself. The state government will pay for you. Campus placements will be there during the last year. Most of them are IT based, but you will get a core job if you are having cgpa of 8 or above

Life at the campus is thrilling. Student parties are there. If you join such parties you can build leadership qualities. Along with that, there are other clubs like nature club and many more. The annual fest will have a different name every year. In 2021 it was sristi. It was conducted usually in the month of January. Tech Fest will be there for a week. You can participate and learn more from it. There are 2 libraries in the college. One is department and the other is the college library. So you will get most of the books from there if you want to refer them. Classrooms are pretty much clean and well-arranged. sports club is there. If you join there you will get a chance to participate in state-level sports and extracurricular activities help you to achieve some extracurricular points in university as you have to get some points at the end of the semester gor writing the exam. Arts clubs are dealing by students itself

A hostel facility is given by the college. But your home should be far from the college where it is situated. And if you have a reservation it's easy for you to get into this hostel. The room is pretty much nice to accommodate 3 people. A lot of space is there for keeping your things and books. The meal quality is good. You will get non-veg 3 times a week and for other days food is also nice. Registration for the hostel can be done by filling out a form and given to the office and if you are looking for a pg nearby you will get it within 4000 rupees. That too is very near to our college

Eligibility for the course mainly depends upon the entrance exam named Gate. You have to score a rank below 8000 to get into this college if you are in the general category. If you are coming under the reservation category you can easily get into this college even if you are having a rank below 30000. Sometimes without a qualifying gate exam, you will get it as there is no student who applied for this course with a qualifying gate. Application forms and fees are clearly mentioned on the directorate of higher education website. Usually, the application starts in the month of August. If you are going to this college you will get a scholarship so that fewer fees are there for you
