Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I was not so clear about my passion, at the time of admission. since I was slightly interested in Electronics at that time I chose this course also nit Calcutta was among the top 5 NITs at that time which was an added benefit. faculty to student ratio is pretty standard compared with any other nit minimum qualification that I have seen for any faculty is mtech and most of them have done their PhDs they take a course review at the end of every semester to rate the teacher of their abilities to teach the course. teaching standard is pretty normal but could be improved. there are mid-semester and end exams and also assignments, Passing the course is easy but getting a higher percentage of marks is tough

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Internship opportunities are abundant and diverse, with top-notch companies visiting our campus to offer valuable learning experiences to students. Companies like Accenture, Amazon, Bajaj Auto, CGI India, Capgemini, Big Basket, DE Shaw, Microsoft, Google, and Samsung, along with prominent core companies like LnT and Shobha Group, have been actively recruiting interns. The internships come with stipends, such as Goldman Sachs offering 1 lakh/month, Oracle providing 90k, Qualcomm with 40k/month, and Visa offering 70k/month stipends

Placement Experience

3.5

As a student at NIT Calicut, the recent placement was quite alright. The highest package was INR 47 LPA, but it also highlighted the vast disparities among students. The overall average package of INR 14.29 LPA might seem decent, but many of my peers struggled to secure satisfying job offers. As a Computer Science and Engineering student, the average package of INR 22.03 LPA may sound good on paper, but the job market is competitive, and landing a high-paying job is no guarantee. Many of us are burdened with the pressure to perform exceptionally and stand out in a crowded field.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure at NIT Calicut: Gen, OBC & EWS with income >5 lakhs: 1,25,000 INR (USD equiv.). Exempt from CIWG & Study in India fees. Gen, OBC & EWS with income <1 lakh: 41,667 INR (USD equiv.). Not eligible for CIWG & Study in India fees. All SC & PWD candidates: Fee exemption. MEA & Foreign Nationals (DASA): US$8000 (US$4000 for SAARC) or INR equiv. Not eligible for CIWG & Study in India fees. Candidates under the CIWG scheme: US$8000 (US$4000 for SAARC) or INR equiv. ST Candidates pay 1,25,000 (INR).

Campus Life

4

NIT Calicut hosts two major annual fests - "Tathva" and "Ragam". Tathva is the tech fest conducted around October, and Ragam is the cultural fest held in March. The library offers a wide range of subject-related books, but fiction books are limited. Classrooms are equipped with projectors and boards for effective teaching. The campus provides various sports facilities, including hockey, cricket, basketball, kabaddi, and volleyball, among others. There are numerous clubs and groups run by students, such as the Literary and Debate Club, Indian Cultural Association, Dance and Drama Forum, Music Club, Adventure Club, and more. For technical enthusiasts, there are clubs like Robotics Interest Group (RIG), Team Unwired for automobile enthusiasts, and Aero Unwired for flight enthusiasts. The Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Association (IEEE) offers workshops, seminars, and access to IEEE journals and magazines.

Admission

12th matriculation is the only eligibility. After appearing for JEE Main, I applied through JoSAA for admission to various NITs. I obtained a rank around 2016 in the OBC category, the cut-off for ECE at NIT Calicut was approximately 2100. I couldn't secure a better college through the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) rounds, so I had to settle for NIT Calicut, which I got in the regular JoSAA rounds. Also, the CSAB cutoff for ECE in NIT Calicut was 2500-3000. The application process and fees were standard JoSAA procedures, with specific dates for submission. After provisional admission, there was also a physical document verification round to ensure eligibility. Regarding improvements in the admission process, I don't see much room for change as the process is uniform across all NITs. Overall, the admission process was rigorous and straightforward, and I ended up with NIT Calicut through JoSAA after JEE Main and CSAB rounds.

Placement Experience:

The placement here is top notch. This year in my campus the highest CTC offered was 56.5lpa by PALOALTO. Placements process is centralised at coimbatore though. Students are eligible for campus placements from third year or s5. Average package in computing department ranges from 10-12lpa. My plans after degree is to pursue MS: opportunities of which are provided by the college itself. In computing department almost 90% of the students have been placed according to the seniors I talked to. However it is lower in other streams.

Civil engineering is a course with least placement in every engineering colleges. Students are placed during their fourth year in college. Sobha Constructions Ltd is one of the main companies that visits college. 200000rupees package is the average package offered. Les than 25 percent civil engineers get placed. I plan to prepare for GATE exam and pursue more in this course.
