Course Curriculum Overview
I choose the B.Sc in Computer Science program since it was a dream for a long time. Speaking of Faculty members, most of them are highly reputed in the state of West Bengal itself. There are 7 faculty members in total with a total student strength of UG, PG, and PhD students combined (students of generic are not included). Professors are very friendly, available for help, and can support the students who need extra time if requested. Professors in this department teach in the classroom and also provide us with video lectures of the same which were recorded by them during the covid period of online education. Those recorded lectures help as a good backup in time of revision.
Internships Opportunities
The internship is mostly encouraged for students of PG and PhD programs. UG students can do internships if allowed by the HOD of their respective departments. Students here mostly get private company internships and a few from governmental bodies. Internships are actually less popular among UG students.
Placement Experience
Placements opportunity depends based on the departments. The Department of Chemistry gets job offers from the company like Asian Paints or coca cola. While Department of Computer Science sends its students to RKM Belur (another college under RKM) where Google and Microsoft come for campus interviews. It estimates that nearly 10 out of 12 get direct job offers.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost of the study is very nominal and concessions are provided to students with weak financial backgrounds. Students here are encouraged mostly to opt for government scholarships and most of the students also have scholarships provided by the State government or central government or both. Scholarships like NSP, SVMCM, OASIS, and INSPIRE are mostly popular among students. Students with academic excellency are offered jobs like assistant professors or appointed as teachers of SEC(Skill Enhancing Courses) subjects.
Campus Life
RKM Narendrapur Ashram has a campus area of 181 acres. Which includes a school, a college, a university, a blind boys academy, a motor training centre, a computer training centre, an industrial training centre, a building for PhD research building, 2 auditoriums, 1 Stadium, 1 Swimming pool, 1 hospital, 1 gym, 1 ayurvedic garden and with numerous playground, indoor stadiums, hostels, and small ponds. It also features a mango and jackfruit orchid. Inside the college, every department conducts its own departmental fest. Numerous seminars are also conducted by both department and college. The college also has its NCC and NSS. Add-on certificates are provided for various courses (mainly musical, spiritual, and learning foreign languages). Annual sports, Annual Drama, Annual quizzes and Annual prize distribution days are its main attraction. But one thing that the students have to keep in mind, since it's a monastic institution they have to follow some sets of rules that are very important.
Hostel Facilities
I discussed all details where you asked for life on campus. The rent of the hostel is nominal and included in college fees. since this is a monastic institute, it receives huge donations so the Dinning facility is free. Since it's a residential college, you have to stay here and it doesn't matter how near your home is. Speaking of meals then there is no complaints at all. RKMRC provides a very nutritious meal in the morning and night with Rice, dal, vegetable dish, and fish/egg. Dahi is specially provided during the day and Milk is provided at night. Evening lunch is the most attractive which provides puri-dum aloo or Paratha-dum aloo or puffed rice with Tadka dal or Matar. On special days, egg rolls or gol gappas are provided during evening lunch.
Admission
Anyone with more than 60% in the 10+2 exam can join the college. But due to its popularity with NIRF list 19. Students have to face tough competition. Most of the students here have more than 90% in board exams. There's an entrance exam where mainly Mathematical and reasoning questions were asked. after qualifying, we have to appear for an interview which is the final selection. I consider the interview a tough part since professors from both Honors and generic subjects will ask various questions which include both educational and personal.
