Vidyasagar College (VSC) was established in 1872 by Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar by the name of Metropolitan College. It offers UG and PG courses in both Arts and Science Stream. It has been accredited ‘B++’ grade by the NAAC team.

VSC is affiliated to Calcutta University and follows the curriculum of the University only. It is one of the oldest institutions in the country and was the first private college in India run by the Indians.

Likes

This college provides you with many oppurtunitiess as it has a good lab infrastructues, the lab assistants are very supportive, the teachers are also very supportive in addressing your problems. This college has a great library with suffient books.
This college provides great scope for social interactions, as it organizes numerous fests and annual social functions.It also organizes science exhibitions which are also very helpful
This college also helps in getting placements in different fields

Dislikes

There are different areas for development. The classrooms need to be more spacious I feel
Modern teaching techniques need to be applied like digital boards,etc
The college ground needs to be bigger for the students to get refreshment when they are free from studies

Student view on course curriculum

The subject I studied is a core science subject that is chemistry and it has great applications in the real world. I chose the course as I really liked the subject. The course provides us with real job oppurtunities and also for further research in the field.There are many scope for development like the course curriculum syllabus may be broadened and modern teaching techniques like digital board may be introduced.2 exams are held in a year regularly amd the exam levels are moderate.

Yearly fees and scholarship provided by the college

I got into this college in 2020 and completed the course in 2024, it was a fairly good college with good infrastructure, supportive teachers, a good library and all the other amenities.I used to pay about ?15 thousand each year. The fees was equal for every student in the same course irrespective of their category.All the scholarships that are available can be done in this college, like svmcm, inspire,oasis etc.

College fests and various activities

There are two functions held in a year, one is the annual social and other is the freshers which provides great scope for social interaction.The library is great with sufficient books and journals.Annual sports are organized by the college and also science exhibitions are held. The college also has a gymnasium, a playing ground and also scope for indoor sports.

Student views on the faculty and exams

This college maintains a great student to teacher ratio. There are about 1 teacher for every 10 students.I liked each and every faculties that I had in this college.2 exams takes place every year that are conducted by the university, the levels of the exams are moderate.The relevance of the course in the market is great.

I chose this college as this is a renowned college from the city. I didn't get rejection from any college but I chose this one as it is a very renowned and prestigious college.The admission process is fully online.The eligibility is to pass 12th boards with good marks an seats are limited so one has to compete with other students.

Thing you should know before enter into vidyasagar college

Dislikes

Infrastructure and lab facilities are very poor

I also applied for bethune college and presidency college but i was not eligible for that on the basis of my marks and i got rejected and another reason why i chose this college because it locates very near from home and eligibility is you have to pass 12 th high secondary board exam with good percentage likr above 70% but that can't give u good subject choice

I got chance to city college, rammohan college, jaipuriya college and vidyasagar college fir bsc chemistry. Among all those I choose vidyasagar college due to the overview of good faculty in chemistry and their is also a sporta quota for admission. University of calcutta always give ug admission in the aspects of merit, no. Entrace test is required so I got chance with merit and sport quota also.

There is a huge collection of books, journals and sufficient relevant books in the library to fulfill the students requirements

Dislikes

The behaviour of office staffs is not good.They are very rude and not cooperative.
Our college is a heritage building with many historical touches.So our classrooms ,labs are so old.
Our campus is not so big.Only one small canteen and one small play ground are available.

Admission:

Admission process of this college is totally 12 th marks based.During admission,first I got chance in chemistry in this college.Later we got chances in many colleges but I feel and my teachers suggested me to take admission in this college

The college is raging free . No raging is done here.
Student union is too helpful . There is no issue about bad behaviour.

Admission:

The college need high qualities result to get in any course. But the Sc, ST and OBC Gets good offer. If you have to join the Collage, you need to apply by new West Bengal admission portal of Collage. The reservation reservation seats helps theSC , ST and OBC candidate. The examination time with of the course Is not so good.

Likes

Faculties are good and strict. They help to learn. Library facility is good.

Dislikes

The college administration is strict in everything.
The campus doesn't have so much open space.
Attendance percentage rules are very much strict.

Admission:

I applied online on the basis of Highersecondary marks. Admission process was smooth. It mainly includes payment of admission fees ( near about Rs. 6000/-) and document verification. No such students union politics was there.

Too much politics were their even principle was very angry for too much outsiders involvement

Eligibility was the science percentage of 10th and 12th exam which should match the criteria of the candidates. Reservation were not there, but financial benefits were their for sc, st and OBC compared to general cast. Admission should be online to stop any kind of outside influence in the financial things of the college
