Remarks

Recently college has been very strict regarding discipline. Bikes are no more allowed in college campus for students which was not an issue before 2011. Going out of campus and coming into campus time restriction has been implemeted.

Entrance Preview

The entrance examination in 2007 was AIEEE, I scored 183/360 and got rank around 20K. I had other option like CS & Electronics in colleges like NIT Patna, Jamshedpur, Agartala but I prefer NIT Durgapur as it is a beter college in terms of placement, faculty and proximity to my hometown.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

First three years of the curriculum is regualr engineering studies but the final year semester is focussed on research. Like we were focussed on project work in 7th & 8th semester and the weightage % of marks were highest for project. In my case my professor was very supportive and he arranged all the external support we required without any hesitation.

Internships Opportunities

Right now I dont have much information on intership but during my final year there were 9-10 students working as project assistant under some professrors. Stipend was 12k-25k/month in 2011. College sends to CERN & NUS for interships. (Selected students shortlisted through CGPA then PI)

College Events

3

A various events are celebrtaed in the college. 1. Aarohan is the anual techfest of NIT Durgapur. Normally happens for 3-4 days in the month of Feb-March. 2. Recsstacy in the annual cultural Fest. Normally happens for 3-4 days during March-April. It the best one bollywood singers, comedians and Indi-Pop band performs. There are several clubs in the college for students engagement like. 1. Math & tech Club. 2. CCA 3.SAE. 4. Radio NITroz. 5. Linux user group. 6. Dance Club. 7. Gymkhana club etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Tution fees & other fees per semester costs around 75000. There is no hostel rent, you only have to pay mess fees. Fee structure is as per goverment rule if your annual income is less than the specified limit then semester feesl will be lower. It is not expensive compared to other engineering colleges.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships for SC/ST students Scholarship for students whose parents having Annual Income less. Other i am no awre of.

Campus Life

3

Male to female ratio in our batch was 9:1, As it is an NIT students from all over India study here. Though 50% of students are from bengal rest 50% are from other states. You can find some students from Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan through Govt Programe. For extra curricular activites there ia lot of socities like Literature, Robotics club. There are two playgrounds, one basket ball court, one lawn tennis court. College team participates every year in Cricket, Football, Voleyball, Basketball. Every year election is held for Students gymakhana club which organises various cultural fests in college. All sorts of facilities are there one can suit him/herself according to his/her choice.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

NIT Durgapur is a fully residential college. All the students must stay in Hostel, it does not matter if your hometown is Durgapur also. For each year students Hostel is different. So you have to change your hostel at the start of each year. From 1st year to 3rd year hostel is shared but for final year students it is single room. High speed LAN is provided in alll rooms and DC is the lifeline. For non veg lovers it is OK but for vegeterians it is not good. Fish is served during lunch everyday, and egg is served during dinner every day but wednesday is best day as special dinner is served and it is really good. mess fees come around 3k.

Alumni/Alumna

College alumni network is not that strong, during my college time I had not had much interaction with alumni very much. But now a days it is changing.

Exam Structure

Total semester is 8. i.e. 2 semester exam for each year. Maximum marks for each theory paper is 100 marks. 10 marks for attendance, 20 marks for internals, class test , quizs & rest 70 marks are for final semester paper. So if you have not performed well in internals or class tests or class attendace then your grades are going to be screwed. Like all other engineering collegees in India SGPA/CGPA is calculated from 10 point scale. There is no relative marking.

Admission

Way back in 2007, the candidates were selected through AIEEE. Each NIT had some state wise alloted quota seats. Like in 2007 50% of the total seats of NIT Durgapur were reserved for West bengal and rest 50% were divided into other states. You have to fill up a no of choices during conselling and according to your rank & availability of the seats you will get admission. There is no interview process.

Faculty

4

I would say 80% of the faculty were having PhD degree. Rest 20% were fresh pass outs, either they were doing PhD in campus or they were doing from IITs or IISCs. Overall faculty of the college were very good. Teaching methods varies from faculty to faculty. Some encourages open book test while some advices only to follow his classroom notes.

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin
