Remarks

College Management is reasonable. There is a certain degree of student freedom. Not much of an interference in daily activities. The processes are also much smooth. I faced no hiccups during the process. If you are following the rules, there is not much of an issue here.

Entrance Preview

I gave WBJEE and my state general rank in engineering was 208. I only wanted to study in Jadavpur if at all I study Engineering. Electrical was the best discipline I was getting at my rank after Electronics and CS.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is deep and exhaustive. But it lacks exposure to modern systems. No computer exposure, in the course. Almost no programming classes. No skill building, for daily job affairs. But from an engineering standpoint, it is heavy and imparts good knowledge.

Internships Opportunities

We had no internship culture at least in Electrical. Still, I opted for one company which dealt in rolling iron, named Gontermann Peipers (I) Ltd in Pailan, Kolkata. No stipend. We just went to hang around with friends. But after 3-4 days I stopped going. Nothing accountable on us.

Placement Experience

2.5

During our times, Placements and job opportunities are below par, I would say, for a University of JU's Stature. Bulk Placed companies like TCS, CTS, IBM made so many offers like made almost 100% placement. However, big bulge banks, consulting were absent in the process. Even high tech companies like google, Microsoft, Amazon are a sparsity. Among the best companies I have opted for placement purpose are Adobe, D.E.Shaw, Yahoo, Cisco, Schlumberger, and that's all.

College Events

5

There are many events happening like, Sanskriti, Electrical Dept fest, Annual fest, and many more. in each of them , we have lots of reputed bands and singers and artists performing over a period of many days. I can definitely vouch that they are the best in the locality and people around nearby campus flock to attend each of the events.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It is very cheap. In fact, it can be counted as the cheapest and the most affordable options in the country. I have in my tenure of 4 years gave only INR 10,000. People above my batch have completed their degree in less than INR 20. In recent days, fees have been increased, but still it is one of the best options in the country, in terms of expenditure.

Fees and Financial Aid

People under certain income group, get their tuition fees relaxed or completely waived off. Apart from that, thousands of other scholarships are there. The education fees is so low, that I have not heard anyone taking loans in JU. However, on requirement basis, ample financing and scholarships are available.

Campus Life

3.5

Gender Ratio in Engineering is very poor. I remember in a batch of 104 students, we had only 8 girls. But the picture is just 180 degree opposite in Arts faculty. I have not particularly participated in too much extra curricular activities, but the events are rich and many. Interested junta get ample opportunity to show case their talent and exposure is great.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I have not stayed in hostel.I cannot reliably comment on hostel issues, but within campus, lots of mess and shops are there, where food is excellent and atmosphere is very vibrant. Almost all over the campus, you can find good food facilities at very cheap prices. The mess and rent facilities outside the campus are ample and cheap.

Alumni/Alumna

I have not asked any particular help from alumni networks. But during encounters, and occasional meet ups, people are appreciative of each other. People are proud to be an alum of JU, and only positive things I have experienced.

Exam Structure

Exams and Labs are very frequent, but the atmosphere is very chilled out. For every semester, there are around 6 theoretical papers and 4 lab works. For each theoretical papers, there were 25% weight-age on class tests, 70% on exams, and 5% attendance. The sessional classes are also very very chilled out. It is intense, but never, stressful. Plus, thousands of notes, senior advice, senior notes are available.

Admission

I got a rank 208 in WBJEE. After the rank there is a counseling event. We have to present in the counseling event at our day. We then opt for courses and the discipline. If that course and discipline is available i.e seats are left at that point of time, then that discipline and college is allotted for admission to us.

Faculty

3

Faculty is very qualified. But as with all other colleges, some are very good, some are a drag. Most of them are pretty interested, but some of them are just passing a good time, without any real commitment. Most of them are approachable and helpful.
