Remarks

Management is a bit lax. A lot of internal and unresponsive bureaucracy seems to have formed. A little frustrating sometimes to deal with them.

Entrance Preview

JEE Mains. Score-191. In north india it was one of the best institutions for mechanical engineering. Of course discounting the IITs. BITSAT score- 306

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

A bit out-dated. A lot of material is irrelevant if you hold it up to the current industry standard. The material should be up to date and reflect changing times and technology. A few subjects are very ill-conceived and ad-hoc. Like environmental education and entrepreneurship studies. Although I do think with the subsequent batches the college is trying to improve things.

Internships Opportunities

Yes. In mechanical many top companies from India visit the campus. PnG- 50,000/- stipund. Tata- 18,000/- stipund. Eicher Motors- 8,000/- Other companies- Ford, LG, Whirlpool, JCB, Alstom. A few more. Experience is generally very positive.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placement Data:- Our placement percentage usually reaches more than 90%. As far as placements are concerned we are the 8th best ranking engineering university in INDIA. Highest packages in computer department can go up to 21 lakhs. In my branch which is mechanical we get up to 8 lakh per annum max. But recently Proctor & Gamble has offered up to 16.5 lakhs.

College Events

4

Earlier two separate events used to be celebrated in the university. One was a technical fest. The other was a cultural fest. But now we only have one fest which is named Saturnalia. This is both a cultural and technical fest. The quality is not very good. The budget is low too. And it speaks volumes if you think about this that they had to combine the two fests into one.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I do perceive it a little expensive. Especially compared to IITs. But probably not too much if you compare to other private engineering institutions. Every year they increase the tuition fees by 10%. And over time this obviously gets compounded. And along with the development fees they charge a development fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes. Thapar University offers a lot of scholarships. First is the merit scholarship which is based on boards marks. Then we have the merit cum means scholarship. This is offered to students who have parent's annual income is less than 5 lakhs per annum. But of course this is based on means. Then there are many special scholarships offered by alumni.

Campus Life

4

Gender ratio is very poor. Especially in my branch which is mechanical engineering. 2-3 girls per 180 students. Other branches have a ratio more than 3-4 times at least. But that is still less. Although this is the general situation with engineering in India. I don't think that this situation is something unique to our college only. Labs are fine. Sports facilities are above average. Debating societies are above average too.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Mess food is decent. Quality tends to vary. But the food is generally eatable. Hygiene is maintained. That is a plus. Hostels are quite. Some new infrastructure has been developed. That is probably world class. They are also offering AC single rooms with attached bathrooms. The prices of these rooms are good.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes very. More than one society has been formed which connects us with alumni. It is very good. They are very helpful. Most of the decent placement level which exists is mainly due to to good alumni relations we have. The seniors are helpful too. And there is zero ragging in the campus.

Exam Structure

Well I think that the number of classes is definitely a little more than required. It was a bit difficult to adjust initially. The exams structure in itself is not very hectic though. We have just 2 main exams per semester. Mid semester exams and end semester exams. And in between we have to set of short quizzes. But they aren't a burden. Practicals are pretty easy going too.

Admission

Step 1. Applied online. This was a simple process. An initial fees of maybe 1000 had to be paid. Step 2. According to cutoff which came a few weeks later I selected my prefered branch. It was MEE. There were second and third lifts too at later times but luckily I managed to make the first one. Step 3. Went to the campus to complete formalities and pay joining fees in person. And allocation of hostel.

Faculty

3.5

As far as the educational qualifications of the faculty is concerned they are top notch. Thapar is mostly hiring faculty who are PHD's from IITs. But a lot of the faculty is young and not very experienced. So currently I believe the quality suffers but in the future it will improve as the faculty gain more experience.

Course Curriculum Overview:

From the begning i was always into tech and computers i liked to make my school persentation on my pc and that's the main reason for taking the stream CSE . The curriculum makes you ready for thr real world application by providing classes for eveything that a student is facing problem. If you ask me for the suggestion then some teachers should change their tecahing methods so that they will help the student in a better way . The frequency and timing of the exam goes like the college conducts two internal exams for the internal marks known as MST and one final exam and the difficulty level is medium

Placement Experience:

In LPU placement process usually start from 6th semester onwards. Many good companies come to campus like Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, Accenture, Amazon and few product based also. Some startups also visit. The no. of offers are quite large every year because batch size is big. Highest package I heard was around 40 LPA but that is very rare, only 1-2 students get. Average package is around 5–6 LPA for CSE branch. For other branches it is little bit low. Almost 80-85% students who are seriously preparing gets placement from college. College also provide placement training and soft skills classes which help in interviews.
