Remarks
I had a very good experience with IIITA. The college is very supportive in research. It is well maintained. A lot of companies visit for placements.
Entrance Preview
For M.Tech admissions, I gave GATE 2013 exam. My rank was around 1200. I chose this institute because it was very reputed and my home town was Allahabad as well. I chose communication engineering for post graduation because of my interest in the subject.
Course Curriculum Overview
My course was Communication Engineering. It was well structured on the lines on other NITs and IITs. Second year was mostly related to the research on my chosen area and writing the thesis about it. There was periodic review and seminars to assess the progress on my thesis, which were always helpful.
Internships Opportunities
I believe there was internship. However, since I was a post graduate student, I used to get monthly stipend of Rs. 12500, which is prescribed by government. The PhD students used to get Rs. 25000 monthly stipend and residential benefits.
Placement Experience
As far as I know, almost all BTech students were placed. Even many MTech students were placed, although a lot of MTech students go for PhD and hence do not sit in placements. Companies include Google, Flipkart, Amazon, Wipro, HCL, Infosys, Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, etc. Almost all major companies come. There are days when 3-4 companies would come on a single day. Package would differ from company to company and may range from 4 lpa to 15 lpa, as far as I know.
College Events
Technical fests would include seminars and workshops, a lot of them conducted by IIIT itself. But we were always notified and encouraged to visit other colleges for workshops as well. These were held once or twice per semester. Cultural fests were organized once a year and it would be grand. Celebrity band and singers are invited. Students from our college and other college would also perform. Sports mega event is also held once a year.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure was feasible, I would say. It was a little more than 50K for first semester and around 35K for rest of the semesters. I am not aware about the fee structure for BTech and PhD courses. However it might be a little costlier than other government colleges like NITs and IITs.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not aware about the loan facility. Canara bank handles a lot of work for IIIT and they may help in loan facility. There is a separate help desk for Canara bank in college premises and there officials visit once a week to help with any student issues.
Campus Life
The gender ratio was good and I have never faced any discrimination on my part. Girls and boys are equally free to work in their labs at any time, even during night. Campus is very beautiful, lush with greenery, so it makes a good scene. The main canteen is very popular for its cuisines. There are also grocery shops, parlour, ATM etc inside the campus. The campus is located outside the main city of Allahabad. College bus goes out every day free of cost for hostel students. Sports facilities are available inside the campus. There are sporting events, robotics competition, cultural event, debates and elocution competitions etc.
Hostel Facilities
I was a day scholar and did not take up the hostel(My hometown is Allahabad itself). However a lot of my friends used to live in hostel and I had been there quite a few times. There were plenty of rooms available for students and hence no need for PGs. Rooms were good as per size and were very clean and properly maintained. Mess food was good and had variety for different days. There are two canteens on the campus, where food is amazing as well.
Alumni/Alumna
An alumni meet is organized every now and then. We often interacted with our seniors, who guided us a lot regarding our course and in our thesis as well. Ragging is strictly prohibited on the campus. Most of my seniors are either placed or doing PhD now.
Exam Structure
The entire six month semester is well divided between written exams and practical exams. Marks were allocated for all these. So one can score in either or all of these. Labs were very regular and given immense importance, which is important for engineering students. I would not call it a hectic schedule, it was only so during exams.
Admission
I gave GATE 2013 exam. During that year, IIITA conducted its own entrance exam, which included a written exam, a practical session and an interview. I was able to qualify them easily. However now admissions are through GATE rank only like other postgraduate institutes. The notification is released on its website around the same time as the other institutes.
Faculty
All the faculty members were very experienced and certainly qualified. They would help us in not only the course subjects, but in our thesis as well. The course for BTech or MTech or PhD were always on track, filled with exams and practical sessions. The best part was one can access any laboratory in the college as per need, there was no restriction.
