Choose IIIT Jabalpur for a CSE branch. This is because IIITs offer good placements, curriculum and culture in this branch. Even IIIT Kancheepuram is a good option for CSE. But the distance from home and food form an integral part of this decision-making. Assuming you aren’t from South India, the lifestyle and eating habits might be difficult to adapt to. As far as NIT Hamirpur and NIT Jalandhar are concerned, choose them if you are planning for an ECE degree. They are good colleges as well. IIITDM Jabalpur is a premiere technical institute. It was established by the MoE in 2005. It is among the oldest and the most well established IIITs.

The CSE department of IIITDM Jabalpur is better in comparison to the other colleges mentioned by you. This is evident in the preference of most students, as they give priority to IIITDM for their CSE over other IIITs.

The placements of the CSE department have been quite good over the past few years. Moreover, IIITDM Jabalpur has a tie up with Japan, and top performers from each branch get a chance to visit the country during winter break.

First, I would like you to address your branch preference. Choosing a branch should be the top most priority. CSE and ECE are quite different from one another. Although IITs/IIITs/NITs do offer a branch change option, it is quite difficult to get it. So I would suggest you make up your mind on which branch truly interests you.

Now coming to the colleges. Choose IIIT Jabalpur for a CSE branch. This is because IIITs offer good placements, curriculum and culture in this branch. Even IIIT Kancheepuram is a good option for CSE. But the distance from home and food form an integral part of this decision-making. Assuming you aren’t from South India, the lifestyle and eating habits might be difficult to adapt to. As far as NIT Hamirpur and NIT Jalandhar are concerned, choose them if you are planning for an ECE degree. They are good colleges as well.

First prioritize your branch and then choose your college among these four. I won’t suggest you go by college rankings. Basically, choose your branch first and then decide the best college for yourself.

What should I prefer: IT at NIT Raipur or a CS at IIIT Jabalpur?

Nowadays, engineering aspirants give more importance to the brand and tag of the college rather than the academic ambiance they offer. Like sheep in a herd, they flock to colleagues that have higher rankings and give them a tag to boast about in the process, They forget that for education, the tag does not matter.

IIITs are the most neglected institutes in this process. IIITs like Jabalpur, Allahabad, Kancheepuram, and Gwalior have been set up by MHRD that focus primarily on studies in the IT sector, unlike NITs that cater to various branches of engineering. IIITs thus have a CS-oriented culture, curriculum, and opportunities. This may not be the case for NITs that have many branches.

Although NIT Raipur is older than IIIT Jabalpur, it's not at par with IIIT Jabalpur at least in terms of its Computer Science education. IIIT Jabalpur has much better placements for the CSE department than the IT branch of NIT Raipur. Moreover, IIIT Jabalpur has collaboration with Universities in Japan, unlike NIT Raipur.

The choice of the branch is more important than choosing the institute because it determines and shapes your career. If you are interested in working in a PSU or have an interest in Electronics, choose ECE but if you have no such inclinations choose CS, the most diverse field. There are two main differences between IIITs and NITs

IIITs are relatively new and may not have a very extensive alumni network while NITs are aged old and have an elaborate network.
NITs provide diverse specialization in various fields while IIITs only focus on Computer Science education.

Based on the placement scenario and the academics, here is the preference order I would suggest you follow while making your choice

NIT Jalandhar CSE>IIIT Jabalpur CSE>NIT Raipur CSE>NIT Kurukshetra ECE>NIT Hamirpur ECE> NIT Jamshedpur ECE

It's important to note that this preference order is not based on any official data and is based on my own opinion only.

According to me, IIIT Jabalpur is way ahead of the other two colleges. It is followed by NIT Patna. Here are some advantages of IIIT Jabalpur-

Infrastructure- The campus is spread across 300 acres and has a well-furnished library.
Placements - The placements are good and improving with each year. Here is the year-wise highest salary trend for the college-

The placements for Mechanical, CSE and ECE are quite impressive. Other students opt for CAT/GMAT/higher studies abroad. The college is just 4 km away from the Jabalpur airport which facilitates more companies to visit the campus for placements. Because of good connectivity to major metropolitan cities of India, the placements are expected to increase exponentially in the coming years.

Hostels and Campus Life- As a fresher, you’ll be allotted a three-seater hostel room. From the second year onwards, you’ll get a separate room. Each hostel has two messes and a canteen, the mess food is good. The hostel canteens are open till 2 (at night).

Campus life is great. You can play Volleyball, Cricket, and Football with your friends till late evening. The college fests- Gusto and Abhikalpan are much awaited.

Sports, Clubs and Gym- The college offers good sports facilities. There are football, cricket, basketball, volleyball, badminton & tennis grounds. Hostels have TT tables. Various clubs like dance club, drama club, etc. are also present. There is a gym facility on campus, provided free of cost to the students.

Faculty - The faculty is excellent. It includes IIT alumni and former students of prestigious US universities. You’ll get to learn from the best.

Other - The CSE department has good placements and curriculum. The college has collaborations with 6 Japanese Companies and 6 Japanese institutions.

Therefore, out of NIT Silchar, NIT Patna and IIIT Jabalpur, I would suggest you go for the third one.

Since you did not mention your branch, I will draw a general comparison between IIIT Jabalpur and NIT Silchar that will help you choose one

IIIT Jabalpur offers UG courses under three branches only namely CSE, ECE, and Mechanical while NIT Silchar offers a number of courses in a variety of branches both at UG and PG level.
NIT Silchar is an old institute while IIIT Jabalpur is relatively new.
IIIT Jabalpur focuses solely on IT courses while NIT Silchar has many diverse courses.
NIT Silchar has no international collaborations while IIIT Jabalpur has collaborations with Universities of Japan that offer immense exposure and opportunities.
The placement scenario however is the same and in fact last year the highest package at both institutes hovered around INR 44 LPA.
Location-wise, Jabalpur gives an edge to NIT Silchar as it has better connectivity and places to explore.

Overall, choosing IIIT Jabalpur with its modern curriculum and infrastructure is more beneficial than going for NIT Silchar.

However, there are some additional parameters in which IIIT Jabalpur fares better making it a more preferable choice. Some of them have been mentioned below

Location : Jabalpur enjoys a good location in the heart of the country while NIT Silchar is located remotely in the North-East. Therefore IIIT Jabalpur has better connectivity and exposure.
International collaboration: IIIT Jabalpur has ties with Japan resulting in frequent lectures conducted by Japanese faculty and frequent visits to Japan. Such international ties give it an edge over NIT Silchar in the kind of opportunities offered.
Clubs: IIIT Jabalpur has several technical, cultural, and sports clubs, constituting the Student Gymkhana that ensures the holistic development of the students.
Coding Culture: The institute is known to have an active coding culture that is promoted by many active programming, web development, and graphics designing clubs.

Overall, if you are passionate about academics and research, then go for IIIT Jabalpur but if you want a more vibrant college life choose NIT Silchar.

B.Des aspirants must qualify for UCEED. Candidate must be 10+2 Passed from a recognized Board. Registrations are allowed only if the candidates fulfill the eligibility of completing high school, have not attempted the test more than twice and the date of birth is not before October 1, 1995. Read the following section to know about the documents required at the time of registration
