  • Relaxation in qualifying examinations will be given for reserved category as per Govt. of India norms.
  • For sponsored and part-time programs, the candidates must be employed.
  • Candidates of the institute in the fourth semester of their master’s degree having CPI 8.5 (for SC/ST CPI 8.0) can be admitted to Dual Degree (M.Tech+Ph.D) along with research proposal.
  • Candidates currently in their final year of B.Tech/ BE program in any of the Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) will only be eligible for direct admissions.
  • Candidates with a minimum CPI of at least 8.0 CPI or equivalent (on a scale of 10) at the end of their 7th semester under OPEN and OBC categories are eligible for direct admissions to Ph.D program. Qualified and valid NET/ GATE score is mandatory.
  • A relaxation of 1.0 CPI will be given for SC/ST category students, the minimum CPI requirement will be relaxed to 7.0. 
  • Requirement of GATE/CEED will be waived for part time candidates.

For admission to all the Doctoral Programmes, the candidate must have qualified GATE/ CEED/ (CSIR/ UGC-JRF/ NET) or equivalent examination. A merit list based on the same will then be prepared by the institute. Selected candidates will be notified for their Interview, WAT and Viva-voce. The selected applicants will receive the admission letters and are required to accept the offer of admission by paying the prescribed fee before the specified last date. Course Work: The course work is divided into a minimum of 4 semesters. From Second Semester onwards, the students will have 4 elective courses/ thesis work each semester and the student must get a minimum of 16 credits. Examinations: A student enrolled in the Ph.D. program is formally admitted to the candidacy for the Doctoral degree after he/she has completed:

  • The minimum credit requirements of the Course work with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
  • Shall have successfully completed the comprehensive examination.
  • The evaluation shall be based on their performance in end semester written examination, one mid-semester written examination, and a minimum of two assessments in the form of quizzes/ short test/ assignments/ seminars/ course projects.

Degree Award: The student enrolled in Ph.D. program will only be eligible for the Doctoral degree award if he/she has completed the following criteria:

  • Completed the minimum credit requirements of Course Work, Teaching Work, Program Seminars, and Thesis Work.
  • Shall have acquired a minimum CPI of 7.0 in course work.
  • Must have completed and submitted the final thesis work.

Comprehensive Examination: Students are required to compulsory pass a Comprehensive Examination which is designed to test the overall comprehension of the student in various subjects relevant to his/her field of specialization.

  • Students can appear in the comprehensive examination if he/she has completed the minimum course requirements and satisfied the minimum specified CPI requirement.
  • Comprehensive Examination shall be conducted as written and oral.
  • After the comprehensive examination, the student needs to register for a progress seminar every semester till she/he appears for the open seminar.

Open Seminar: Students are required to deliver an Open Seminar before proceeding to finalize the thesis

  • Students shall be eligible to give open seminars after completion of all academic requirements for the Doctoral Programme including thesis work.
  • The student is required to submit a draft of the thesis to the academic office before the open seminar.

Thesis Submission:

  • Students shall submit the thesis within the stipulated time after successful completion of the open seminar.
  • Along with the thesis, the student shall submit a synopsis of 6-7 pages.
