A Glimpse of Life in Aligarh Muslim University

Talking about the course curriculum, its good to some extent but some topics and subjects need to be removed and replaced with the current going technologically advancement in our field(thermal engineering). But majority of subjects that we are being taught are in agreement with the current researches in our field. Additionally, some subjects which are all about the concepts coming to an extinction should be replaced as soon as possible because there is no need to study them at all. Difficulty level of exam is okay but some papers are too lengthy for the time available (2 hrs) during the exam. So , that should be focused on and taken into consideration.

A lot of internship opportunities are available in our college like in L& T , IITs, ISRO, BARC, DRDO ONGC, NPCIL,Indian Railways and many more and the roles generally offered are trainee because of freshers and no experience criteria. They usually give stipend also approximately 10-12k per month depending upon the companies and the duration of the internship and also the tasks offered during that period of time. Sometimes, i was offered the role of boiler engineer to in power plants to take care of the proper functioning of boilers and also to avoid and manage the mishaps , if any.

Basically, if we're talking about M.tech. students are eligible for campus placement in second year of the course. Many companies have visited so far in the past like L&T , VIT( for Assistant professor) , EIL (for top rank holders) , etc with good CTC packages. My plan is to join any renowned PSU, if selected after completion of this course, as im preparing for it.

Currently, I'm pursuing M.tech. from Aligarh Muslim University and this is my final year. As far as the fees are concerned, tuition fees for the 1st year was ?19165/- and for the 2nd year it was ?8310/- The caution fees, registration fees and all other fees are all included in this . The fees of other categories students is little less (approx 2000? less). The people with disability has no need to pay the tuition fees as it free for them , only they have to pay the hostel and dining charges which are nominal. Talking about the scholarship, we have applied for many scholarships like Ministry of Minority affairs (?24k max in m.tech.), some other private scholarships too, AMU Alumni Scholarship Michigan( ?5000), Begum Sultan Jahan (?2000 per month).

Many annual and technical fests are being held every year like Vercera -by AMU Roboclub(during feb -march), Zarf(march), cultural and muscial fests too like Filmsaaz, Eco fiesta, Sir syed day celebrations, Annual rose show, annual horse riding show, annual althletics meet. There is also Cultural education club and a number of clubs are under this like literary and debating club, film club, drama club, western music club, fine arts club, etc.

The hostels, as we all know, is quite spacious covering lot of lands and the rooms are spacious too with single seater, 2 seater and 4 seater rooms. Moreover, the greenary inside the hostel is also hats off. There's a shop also inside our hostel (Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall)- Salim bhai ki dukan .He keeps everything needed for our ease and comfort and that too at MRP , no extra cost. Taking about the dining, its charges are 1400 per month plus additional 250-300 deceit money . The menu is like we have poori sabzi with chai in breakfast or sometimes egg omlet, bread jam, chhole bhature, chana daliya. During lunch and dinner- sometimes seasonal vegetables, and other times non veg (buffalo and chicken meat). Biryani is also there in the menu, and the gravy items are chickem korma, daal gosht, aloo gosht ,etc. We have to opt yes will filling application form for the course and later on when the hall is allotted, we have to fill a separate form attaching all the documents needed during this process with photographs and stamps also.After some period of time, when all the processes are done, we finally get a room in a particular house and till then if the rooms are all occupied we are allotted annexy located inside the Hall.

I chose this college mainly because of the less fees structure and the greenary campus , a good place to study.Moreover, I'm preparing for govt exams also, so the time needed during M.tech. is enough to focus on exams too. Also, I don't want any gap between the study and job as we have to justify later during interview (the year gaps , if any). Moreover , lot of opportunities are also possible in foreign countries too , and we are also eligible for Assistant professor post (if any). I applied for Jamia Millia Islamia too , but was in waiting list , so i decided to join Aligarh Muslim University and I'm grateful that i did so.

Talking about M.tech(thermal engineering) no of students are 17 and teachers approx 10 so it's basically a good ratio.Moreover, the relationship with faculties are also great but selectively. They are easily approachable, even some of them invite us to their homes in Aligarh for festival. Prof. Sanaur Rehman is a good faculty , one of the reason is being my project mentor and guide . He's very kind and supportive which is needed in a good teacher.

The university gymnasium is quite old established ages ago and lof of equipments are there. It is spacious too and location right behind Skating club and hockey ground. The Maulana Azad library is one of the biggest library in whole Asia, so no discussion needed.Library timing is 8am to 2am (general).There are many reading rooms on different floors like General Reading Hall, M.R Reading hall, Dalai Lama Reading hall, Texual Studies Division, Research Division (for PhD students), PG divison (for PG students), etc. Famous hangout inside & outside the campus are Sir syed house, Sir syed Hall(south) , Kennedy Auditorium lawn, Library canteen, Purani chungi , Deccan Biryani, Dua Raheem Restuarant, Javed Nahari, Cafe roast rider, Centre point , etc.
