What Students Say?
Likes
- The size of campus is perfect, it's a not too big, not too small 120 acres campus. We don't have to wake up too early just yo walk or cycle large distance to reach classes.
- The boys to girls ratio is 4:1 which is quite good considering the condition in other institutions. As a female candidate, the campus is quite safe.
Dislikes
- The rigorous attendance criteria is what I dislike the most. There is a 75% mandatory attendance criteria, and moreover there are marks for attendance as well.
- Lack of recreational facilities in college is what I dislike, apart from a very good swimming pool, there is nothing else to get happy about.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is very relevant across all semesters with a proper inclusion of practical skills in them. We don't have unnecessary subjects like Engineering Drawing, Chemistry, EVS, etc to irritate us. As we all know, there is no point of teaching Chemistry to an IT undergraduate. Coming to my course of interest, the electronics and communication engineering, the labs, faculties, theories are all top notch. The IoT, microelectronics, robotics labs are all very good.
Internships Opportunities
College provides excellent internship facilities as well. Companies like Google, Amazon, Meta etc provide internships here with stipends ranging from 50000 to 1.5 Lakhs. This provides an excellent exposure to students to get industry level experience.
Placement Experience
Students get eligible for placements in 7th semester. Companies visiting us are MAANG, Salesforce, Nvidia, Qualcomm, TCS, Infosys, etc. The placement percentage for last year was 100% for IT and 86% for ECE, therefore the college average was 93%. The highest package was 1.2 Crore Per annum, the average was 25 Lakhs, median was 21 lakhs. My plans are to sit for college placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total course fees for general candidates, inclusive of tution mess and hostel charges, is 12 Lakhs for 4 years. For first year, the fees is around 2.5 Lakhs, and for second year, it is 2.75 Lakhs i.e. an increase of 10% fees per year. The hostel and mess facilities is to the fee I paid ratio is quite average, these facilities could have been better. For SC/ST/PwD students, there is a caste based scholarship, accounting for all the charges, they pay only 34% of what general candidates pay. Their total fees is 4.1 Lakhs for all 4 years and they are not charged any tution fees. In the institute, brilliant students from a humble background can avail the Merit-Cum-Means scholarships. There are other scholarships also available in the institute under the National Scholarship Scheme.
Campus Life
There are 3 fests in the college. Effervescence - The annual cultural fest; Asmita - The annual Sports fest; Aparoksha - The annual technical fest. The fests are awesome to attend and very enjoyable. Asmita is held in January, Aparoksha in April or May, Effervesence in October. The library is too small with a very less seating capacity of 100 students only. The number of books available is quite good with over 65000 books. There are total 5 clubs in college which provide excellent interactions with batchmates and seniors. 1. Acoustics And Media Society (AMS) - The photography society 2. Virtuosi - The music society 3. GeneticX - The Dance society 4. Sarasva - The Literary society 5. Nirmiti - The art society Apart from these, there exists Prayaas, the college NGO which is a student run social group.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facilities are between good to average. There are 6 floors in the hostel alloted to first years named BH-5. There are facilities like common room, gym, tt room, badminton court in the hostel. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are quite good and clean. The floors are clean and the mess is good.
Admission
I choosed IIIT ALLAHABAD over other top NITs and IIITs on the following basis. 1. Small number of batch size which makes it quite enjoyable to attend any Campus event. The batch size for one year is approx 440-450 while in NITs, it is over 1200-1500 due to availability of many other branches. Less students = More Fun 2. Excellent Placement record. As we all know, the placement record is top notch here compared to other colleges. Average of 25 Lakhs is very good even in recession. 3. The infrastructural facilities of hostels is very good here. Comparing this to NITs who have 3-4 students sharing a room, here that number is 2 for first two years and after they you are allotted single rooms.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is 1:25 which is very good, most of the faculties are well behaved and well spoken. They are always present to the students and we as students can approach them and get our doubts cleared. There are around 6-7 subjects per semester with 3-4 tough subjects and other moderate subjects. Out of 100 marks, the marks are divided as 25 - Mid Semester Exams 35 - Internal Assessment (10 for attendance, 15 for projects, and 10 for quizzes) 40 - End Semester Exams Failing to secure 30% marks in any one will result in a course drop and the student will have to repeat the subject in the next odd semester. I like all of my facilities, all of them are well qualified and well approachable and well behaved with us. They are quite chill and also indulge in jokes with the class. The LAB facilities are excellent, well working labs and excellent lab assistants make it easy for us to learn practical skills.
Night Life
The night life is quite average, there are no canteens which provide food late at night. Also there are no places like gaming parlour etc where we can enjoy the night life. At max, we can roam around in the campus, play games like table Tennis, basketball etc. There are hostel and campus in-timing restrictions for first year in the starting 2 months. After that, there are no restrictions. We have a cafe called Mr Dewsis inside the campus which is quite big but doesn't has air conditioning.
