Remarks

According to my experience about the college my experience was excellent in almost every field. I dont know much about other courses by the faculties, students, seniors of my batch were very helpful and kind. Earlier my perception was like only the colleges in the north campus are worth joining but my experience at dyal singh college changed perception. I would really say that the college is worth joining.

Entrance Preview

For taking admission in DU for under graduate courses there is a common admission form for all colleges and you select the colleges on the basis of the cut offs released by the college.I secured 91.20% in class 12th. From the very beginning i wanted to opt either for B.COM(H) or ECONOMICS(H) and as i secured more marks in economics as compared to accounts, i decided to opt for economics as my graduation stream. According to the cut offs of different colleges, the best college i was getting was Dyal Singh College.I opted for Dyal Singh College because it was the best college accepting my score in the field in which i wanted to do my graduation.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum in every college of Delhi University is same. Every college follows the same course curriculum. The readings(referred books) are also the same for all colleges. And the course curriculum is designed in such a way so that every student gets a core knowledge about the subjects. The course curriculum involves PPT presentations, class tests at regular time intervals, semester exams, projects and viva.

Internships Opportunities

Yes it provides internships as well but the number of companies hiring interns is less because the college focuses more on placements. At my time 2-3 companies came for hiring interns and the stipend varies companies to companies. At this time students pays more focus of getting placed rather than getting internships because once you get graduated you get to know alot about the outside world and students tend to use that knowledge and gain more experience in corporate world.

Placement Experience

3.5

Many companies visit the college for the campus placements and the package at my time ranged between 2.5 LPA-4.2 LPA. As a fresher the package is good. As its usually the first job so package does not matter, what matters is the company you are working with. At my time the companies that visited the campus for placements were KPMG, RBS,AON HEWITT, GENPACT, E&Y, S&P, AXIS CONSULTING,ICICI LIFE INSURANCE and many more. The placement society of the college is very good and they try their best in getting good reputed companies for the placements.

College Events

4

Delhi university is also famous for the events that are celebrated in the campuses. There are various events in the colleges like there is a freshers day for all the freshers then there is an annual fest for every college in which every college invites one or the other celebrity in thier campus for an evening and then there is department fest of every department in which students from different colleges come and participate in the events.

Fee Structure And Facilities

fee structure is very minimum. One can easily afford it. Different college has different fee structure. one can easily complete his/her graduation from any college of Delhi university with a budget of 30k maximum because its under the control of the government.

Fees and Financial Aid

No there is no scholarship or loan facility that the college provides. No scholarship is being offered in any delhi university college to the students and as the fee is very minimum there is no need for any loan facility.

Campus Life

4.5

The campus life at my college was very cool. no ragging or stuffs like that. Very friendly seniors and very understanding faculties.gender ratio was almost the same in my batch coming to extra curricular activities there use to be debate competitions, dance competitons, events like treasure hunt,JAM, MUN conference during the department fest apart from that there use to benTED talks, guest lectures, and intercollege sports competition., intercollege boxing competition, nukkad natak organised by the theartre society.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Their is no hostel accomodation that Dyal singh college provides.A person can find PG or flat nearby. the nearby areas are defence colony, lajpat nagar, amar colony, khan market. students can get a flat or a pg in these areas. the college is well connected with JLN metro station. Once you take a exit from the metro station u will see the college as the metro wall and the college wall are joined together.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network of my college especially of economics department was very strong and helpful. before joining the college i had a talk with the seniors of the college asking about their views about the college and they really helped me alot with their honest reviews.

Exam Structure

Exam structure is the same for all colleges of Delhi University. There is a written exam of 75 marks and the rest 25 marks are for attendance, class test and class presentations. There is a semester system and each semester is of 6 months so exams happen once in a semester.

Faculty

4.5

The faculties of my college are very experienced. They had a deep knowledge about their subjects and are very friendly and helpful. The faculties are very understanding and cooperative. My experience with the faculties was very good they really helped me with the studies and took a real pain in making sure that everyone understands what was being taugh in the class.

Course Curriculum Overview:

British classics, Indian writing, postcolonial literature builds a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, which are useful skills. As for comprehensiveness, the curriculum is quite broad. It covers multiple literary periods, genres, and critical theories over the three years, so you’re not really missing out on the essentials. In that sense, it feels academically complete. But sometimes, it leans more towards breadth over depth you move quickly from one topic to another.

There's a placement cell and placement drives do happen in college but genuinely the package offered is not really considerable. After the 4th semester students are considered to sit in the placement drives though I would say it is not very efficient and fruitful.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The reason why I choose this subject because I like history and want to know more about it . History have the best opportunities to pursue the UPSC , Anthropology, archeology and we can learn more about historical researches . The faculty im the department of history is updated and well versed in the field of history and have adopted student friendly teaching methods which make me suggest this subject in JMC to the students who likes to pursue higher studies in history. The exams are conducted at the end of every semester with moderate difficulty level .
