Entrance Preview

I have cleared PhD entrance examination conducted by IIT Kharagpur, I have selected via interview. As IIT is a institute of national importance I have chosen for my doctoral degree.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, they provide internship to B.Tech and PG students with good amount of stipend up to Rs 10,000 per month. In leading multi national companies like Brittania, Tetra pak, Nestle, John Deer, Mahindra & Mahindra, Jain Irrigation etc. As I am a research scholar here, I have not done internship yet.

College Events

Technical events vary departments to department. But a common tech fest is " Kshitij " celebrated with participation from all over the world. The participants explore space technologies, robotics, machinries, models etc. In the techfest and it was full 4 day program.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is nominal. For B.tech it is Rs. 2 lakhs per year including tuition fee, hostel fee and fooding. For PG students, it is Rs. 30,000 per semester including tuition fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

IIT has provision for scholarship to meritorious students. For PG MHRD scholarship of Rs 12000 for PG and Rs 28000 per month is given for support of research.

All the professors in IIT kgp are highly talented and well experienced. All have doctoral degrees and most of them are post doctorate also. They have more than 10 to 30 years of experience in both academics and research.

Its worth it.

Remarks:

Life in IIT Kharagpur is beyond documentation and has its own charm. Kharagpur in itself does not have many amenities in terms of recreation and we have embraced it with love and warmth. The green campus with orange streetlights in night provides a vintage 1960s movie look and is beautiful. Overall, I would say despite every stressful situation, life at IIT Kharagpur campus is worth it.

Since I was interested in getting into an IIT from class 11, and IIT KGP was the only college that gave the best branch to college ratio among all other IITs that I was eligible for based off my rank. The admission process for my college for B.TECH involves JOSAA, a counselling system for all government engineering colleges in India where the eligibility criteria is based off JEE ADVANCED rank. Since you can only select one college through JOSAA, the only one i selected was this as this was the only one I was alotted based off my rank. The cutoff for my college is around 12000 for General Male and 20000 for General Female. This increases for other categories like SC ST OBC etc....Read More
