Remarks
I selected this college as there are very limited options in Kolkata for pursuing Psychology. The pros of going to Amity University Kolkata include: 1) Campus and facilities are top-notch compared to other colleges in Kolkata. 2) The canteen is amazing. 3) The Psychology department is actually really good and gives you the opportunity to learn a lot of stuff. 4) Mandatory research papers/dissertations are a part of the curriculum which are beneficial for future studies and jobs. 5) Scholarship options are amazing. I got a 50% scholarship for first-year based on 12th marks. The cons include: 1) The fees are a bit too much compared to other colleges. 2) Attendance is extremely strict. 3) The average distance of the college is a lot from most people's houses. The admission process has either an entrance paper to sit for or it is based on your 10th and 12th marks-merit. The psychology department specifically in Amity is not all that bad, contrary to the overall reputation of the college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The Psychology department faculty is extremely nice. They are wise and teach well. The faculty always provides the students with notes for every subject as well as ppts and study material so that makes it easy to prepare. The exam difficulty level honestly depends on how well you have prepared. Scoring well is a given if you answer well and are in the good books of the professors. If in case you get debarred in a subject or more due to low attendance, you can pay a certain amount and appear for the exam. If you fail in certain subjects, again you can pay a certain amount and appear for the exams. The class has about 60 to 65 students.
Placement Experience
Campus placements for the Psychology department are not that prominent. Opportunities depend from department to department. I plan to pursue Masters in Counselling Psychology after getting my degree in Bachelors in Applied Psychology Honors.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees on average ranges from 45000 to 48000 per semester for the Psychology course. The scholarship options are good. Above 90% in 12th ensures a 100% scholarship for the first year, above 80% ensures a 50% scholars and above 70% ensures a 25% scholarship. The scholarship will continue throughout the second and third year if the student is consistent with those marks in college.
Campus Life
The campus life is an enriching one. There is a huge library with computer facilities and all the books you need being available. There is a sports arena which is currently in construction with all the sports facilities you can think of. The campus has a CCD within as well as 3 canteens with shacks outside with food stalls that make lunch and snacks absolutely no problem for the students. The classes are spacious and every desk has a charging plug point available. As I previously said the campus is top-notch. There are numerous clubs that one can join including fashion club, music club, book club etc. There is the main Amity fest held every year which is absolutely fun to be a part of. Apart from that, there is a sports fest called Sangathan which is also held. The psychology department specifically has a fest designed which the department holds as well. The campus life is extremely fun with the correct amount of strictness on the part of professors.
