Remarks
I applied for Calcutta University when I was looking for lucrative options for my course. I did not consider that option because i had to shift to Delhi for my further studies. I availed the OBC quota when my admission process was going on. for OBC students the cutoff was slightly lower than the general category. I got admission in the 5th cutoff. there is no age criteria for my program. for my quota, the minimum percentage was 92%. There was no counseling session for my course. It was a direct admission.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because I have always had a strong inclination towards English Literature. I also want to become an acclaimed author in the near future. the faculty: student ratio is 1:4.The faculty is extremely supportive of its students. They are available at all times in case we have any queries and they try to make the classroom environment extremely communicative and friendly. I have a lot of professors with PhD qualification and other professors who have completed their MPhil and post-graduation in literature. I had OBE mode of exams so it was relatively easier than the offline mode. The exams were held in a proper manner with little to no difficulties faced by me.
Internships Opportunities
The companies that came into our college for providing internships included a lot of startups and NGOs founded by DU students. Some of the companies were D.E. Shaw, Arbitrium, Metvy, Jazba, etc. Most of the internships for first-year students were unpaid but second years and third years got as much as 7-10k as the stipend.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements from the 3rd year and the 2nd students get to be a part of pre-placement talks from the 2nd year. the companies visiting include Deloitte, McKinsey, and Co. Around 12LPA was the average package received by students. Around 40% of students got placed in BCom and economics courses. I'm planning to pursue MBA after completing my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost of study for my course is relatively cheaper than many other courses. For economically weaker students, there is an option to apply for scholarships but i didn't apply for it. The students can fill up the scholarship form and submit it to their respective offices.
Campus Life
The annual fest of my college is NEXUS and it is conducted in the month of February or March. the library has an adequate amount of books and the online resources are also adequate. The classroom environment isn't the best because the space is less. Sometimes the professor's voice doesn't reach you because of the echoing. The sports and extracurricular activities are abundant. There are separates societies and clubs for every activity you are or want to get interested in. Alaap, fine arts association, petrichor, placement cell, and effulgence are some of the best socities in SVC. All the above-mentioned societies are run by SVC students.
