Remarks
I got selected into few colleges after JEE mains but I chose PEC because it was my only option that had an Aerospace engineering course. The counselling process for PEC started a bit late than other institutes but I was able to get into the aerospace engineering stream in the first round of counselling. As the process started, we went to Punjab University and they allotted different hours to student groups so the whole process was hassle-free.
Course Curriculum Overview
Due to the popularity of the aerospace engineering course of PEC, I was interested in this course. Our batch had a total of 29 students so it was the branch with the least number of students. There are about 6 professors and 4-5 M.tech/PhD students. The professors are friendly and supportive. As we were a class of very few students, professors were interactive and creative with their teaching methods. We used to have assignments and quizzes from the very beginning of the course and after two months we had mid-semester exams and then end-semester exams almost two months after that. apart from that, there were lab practicals also for a thorough understanding of the concepts.
Internships Opportunities
The whole 6th semester in PEC is your internship semester, during which you're required to gain practical experience for a minimum of 4months. Companies like Microsoft, Amazon, JPMorgan, American express, Mckinsey, Bain&company, FAab hotels, and many others visit PEC to select interns and the package is offered according to the job profile. These companies later on sometimes provide PPOs to the interns. I did a foreign internship at FH Aachen university as there were not many options available for my field i.e, aerospace engineering. I was getting a stipend while working there and I registered as a foreign exchange student there, worked on a hydrogen fuel cell-based airtaxi design.
Placement Experience
In your 7th semester, you become eligible for campus placements. Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Amazon, Airbus, McKinsey are some high-profile companies that hire students from PEC. Branches like CSE and ECE get the Highest CTC of around 42-45lacs and the average goes to 10lacs. I'm planning to do a job for few years then go for higher studies in the field I'll feel is beneficial for my career at that time.
Fees and Financial Aid
Every semester fee is 62000 and the hostel fee per year is 45000 plus 2000 per month as mess bill. As I secured above 90% in my 12th so I was eligible for a scholarship which made my winter-semester fee reduced to 5000. I got into Collegedunia with a package of 9lac/yr.
Campus Life
Our college's fest, The PECFEST, is the biggest fest in the region and it is usually held in the month of October. It's a three day fest including tech-fest and other cultural events. You can find almost every course-related book in the library and there's also a book bank from which you can take the book for the whole semester. Other than that, there are some books and novels for general reading. The new buildings are equipped with projectors and airconditioners whereas in old buildings professors choose an old-school method. The campus has a running field, a cricket field, and a separate football field. Other than that there's a swimming pool, gym, tennis court. After 5 pm you can see everyone indulging themselves in some sort of activity in the various cultural clubs or tech societies. Every society and club follows the hierarchical system in which usually a 4th year is the head of the committee or the club.
Hostel Facilities
As I am a native of Chandigarh so it was difficult for me to get a hostel but after two months as there was a vacancy I was able to get a room in the Vindhya hostel. From first to fourth-year students, everyone was accommodated there, so it was a little crowded, 4 girls had to share one room. But as we became seniors, we were allowed to stay in a group of 3. The number of roommates changes with the semester and students in the hostel. The staff and warden are sweet and caring. The mess food is like every other mess meal, it's not so great but not so bad either. The registration process is quite easy, you just have to fill an application form with address proof and your college DMC, submit it to the DA's office and that should do it.
