Entrance Preview
I cleared UPESAT for getting an admission in UPES. Space sciences and technology has continued to make me ponder over it since my early childhood, so I decided to choose aerospace engineering as my B.tech majors.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is decent enough to make you able do some research as I myself have done two research internships during my bachelor studies, one in ISRO while other being at France. It, the course curriculum, will deliver the basics of Aerospace engineering. For further research, you certainly need to brush up your skills and learn some new softwares.
Internships Opportunities
The college internships are generally in Indian Air Force. While some of the bright students do get selected to work with Mahindra Aerospace. Stipend in Mahindra is something around 5 k per month while there isn't any stipend at IAF.
Placement Experience
You shouldn't expect for a high paying campus placement from UPES in aerospace engineering. Core companies do visit campus but their package lies in the range of 4L-5L. Also some IT and management companies do look forward for Aerospace engineers but it all depends on personal choices at a later stage.
College Events
There are two fests in UPES. One being Urjaa, the cultural fest and other being Ignite, the technical fest. Both the fests are good enough. I wouldn't say they are bad but further improvement could be done. The venue has to be improved a lot. It might occur to you that a school function is being organised, but then you realise it is your college's fest, only to leave you disheartened.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is certainly more than of average college. It is around 1.25 L per semester. So in total it would cost you around 4L per year to survive here, including the college fees. I feel it to be expensive as I'm from a middle class family. However, the crowd turns out to be decent due to this reason.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not aware of any loan facility in my college. However, I'm sure that some of my friends do study using a student loan. Scholarships in UPES are only for the top notch studious students, I mean like really studious and consistent because you have to have an average of 3.67 to get a scholarship here. And that, I would say is very very difficult.
Campus Life
The diversity in college is good. We have students from France, Nigera and other part of Africa, Kazakhstan and few other countries I that I an unaware of. About gender ratio, it is an engineering college so look up for 50:50 ratio. You hardly have 5 or 6 girls in your class. Although CS has a really good gender ratio.
Alumni/Alumna
No alumni network. Interaction opportunities with seniors is really bad. They have no parties or other sessions in which two random students of different batches could talk. All you do is approach like a desperate guy.
Exam Structure
The exam week is hectic. All the exams, generally, line up one after another. Normally the exams lasts for a week or something. However, sometimes the exams might extend to two weeks, well that being a rare case. Labs are pretty advanced in UPES. I would say UPES is one among the few colleges to have such advanced labs.
Admission
Once the results for UPESAT were out. My rank was something around 1300. I went for the counselling and found out I was eligible for the course. Although I was very good at computers and everyone was suggesting me to take CS, despite all of that, I chose aerospace engineering just because I felt it right.
Faculty
The faculty of Aerospace department is one of the best in college. Their knowledge is truly remarkable. They are supporting in all aspects. Though it will be wise if you don't expect campus placements that pay you loads of money since India is still in a developing phase in aerospace sector.
