Remarks

To get admission in humanities steam one must score a percentage above 95%(for general category students). Geography cut off was 96% in 2019. I had 96.4 % in my best four subjects so I easily got admission. During my admission, only two documents were required 10th mark sheet and a 12th mark sheet. Not actual mark sheets but their photocopies along with the registration form. The admission process was quite lengthy, you need to wait for at least 2 hours to get your turn. After verification by the admission in charge, you'll have to pay one year fee and admission will be done.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I wanted to pursue a career in civil service and want to take geography as my optional paper so I chose geography honours. Faculty: student ratio is 1:60. There are two sections, Hindi medium and English medium. Most of the teachers have experience of almost 10 years and they are capable of making you learn everything. They teach with their full efficiency. Exams were always taken on time. I have given only on paper in offline mode. The last three semesters exams are taken online and it is OBE (open book examination). You can easily score 8.5 + Sgpa if you are consistent throughout the semester.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

A student can get internship opportunities throughout the year but according to me, one should always choose an internship opportunity during the summer vacation that is in June and July when one has nothing to do so at that point of time they can invest their time in doing internships with good NGOs and some commercial companies as well. Some NGOs provide good internship opportunities along with a letter of recommendation and internship certificates based on one's performance. Internship certificates also help in getting admission to it master courses. So it is really wise to go for an internship. There are some NGOs which has its branch all over Delhi University, They are Sankalp, the education tree, Umeed- a drop of hope etc. Sometimes they also provide stipends for around 1000 - 2000.

Placement Experience

3.5

There is no specific year of getting placement. One can sit for placement in his first year also. He can choose full time work or half time. There is a separate placement cell called Avenues that handles the placement responsibility. The companies that visit every year are Wipro, Samsung, Tata Motors, etc. They offer the post of the content writer, sales manager etc. The highest salary package offered was by Wipro and it was12 lakh per annum (2020) and the lowest package offered was 7 lakh per annum. The total percentage placement percentage was only 30% because only Commerce students prefer to choose placement while the Humanities and Science students have different plans for their future and they go for higher studies.

Fees and Financial Aid

So the geography course the college charges and amount of 12000 per year. There is no such fee hike. The college provide some concession to economically weaker students. College doesn't provide any kind of scholarship but yes there are many scholarships one can find by Govt and private companies , these are post matric scholarship for SC students, pragati scholarship for girls, glow and lovely scholarship, colgate scholarship. I got the colgate scholarship and received an amount of 30,000 for three year.

Campus Life

4

Renaissance it's the name of our fest that lasts for three days. It is organised in the month of March or February. Last it was organised in 2019. Due to the covid pandemic, i have just heared about it. It's the best day of the whole year. We have concerts, DJ night, dance performances. One can enjoy a lot at Kirorimal. Classrooms are big with big windows attached curtains, 6 fans, 1 AC. There are many social groups and societies. They are debating society, theatre, poetry society etc but the best is NSS it has two wings - one work for women's development and other works for the society development like teaching underprivileged kids, donation drive etc.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
