Remarks

I applied for IIEST, Chibpur and Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. I got admission to PEC, Chandigarh as it was the better one out of the two in Aerospace Engineering. I belong to the general category and hence fall in the unreserved section. The admission is based on JEE Mains marks and rank. The admission was handled by JOSSA which is the counselling organisation of the central government.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum was adequate for most of the subjects. Few teachers did put in the effort to update us on the latest and relevant topics. All the professors were masters in aerospace and a few with PhD in their respective specialisation. The faculty to student ratio has improved since the time I joined the college. Exams were held every 2 months with a quiz every 2 weeks. We also had several projects and assignment every 2 weeks.

Internships Opportunities

4

There is no internship availabe in college for students of the college. The students are required to carry out two projects. Minor project in 3rd year and major project in 4th year. The students are expected to carry out the project in their respective branch.

Placement Experience

4

Students have 2 opportunities at placements. In 5th semester students are allowed to sit for placements for an internship which is for 6 months and is the 6th semester of college. In the 7th and 8th semester, students are allowed to sit for their final placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

There was no fee hike during my degree. I was not eligible for any scholarship but there was a scholarship provided for every brach topper and branch topper among girls. There were other several scholarships provided on a different basis. Financial Assistance was provided to students during the pandemic as their parents were not able to pay the fees. It was a crowdfunded effort as several alumni and students contributed to the fund.

Campus Life

4

There is an annual PECFEST which is both the technical and cultural fest for our college. PECFEST is usually held during September and is one of the largest college fest in north India. The library is pretty up to date and has several books although few in number. Classroom are equipped with projectors and AC.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostels are pretty outdated and are in a bad shape. The facility is not regularly cleaned which is one of the major reason for the state of the hostel. The meal are planned well with respect to calories intake needed.

Campus placements are overall decent. Some students usually the top 10 percenrt students get high packages north of 15 lakhs and some even get 35-70 lakhs. but this number is very small and most students get around 4-10 lpa. around 60 to 70 percent students get placed combining on and off campus placements.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The whole curriculum focuses on the cramming power, not on the practical knowledge. Students have to do the tech stack on their own for the placements. Students must do the internship so that he/she will gain some practical knowledge and a chance to gain hands-on experience.

Placement Experience:

Placements at Chitkara University are decent for CSE AI ML. Students are allowed to sit for campus drive from about 7th sem. Many tech and service firms visit like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Capgemini, and some product firms too. Offer count is good for CSE branch each year. Avg package is near 4 to 6 LPA for most roles, and top package can go much higher for select students in dev and AI roles. Around 70 to 80 percent students get some offer if they meet skill and marks rules. The place cell gives test prep, mock talk, and resume help. After my degree, my plan is to get a dev or AI role first, then grow skills and later move to a higher tech role or MS study.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 5th semester (3rd year) onwards, and internships often start from the same time. The placement season runs in the final year with companies visiting from October to March. Big companies like Amazon, Adobe, Deloitte, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, IBM, Microsoft and Oracle come for drives, and many smaller firms also hire. Highest packages reported recently are up to ?1.11 crore (mainly from Amazon), and average packages across engineering are around ?8–10 lakh per annum. Placement percentage is pretty high (80–95%) if a student actively participates and prepares well. Many students get placed on Day 1 itself during drives. Most offers are in software development, IT, data roles, consulting and product teams. Top companies also give super dream offers (10 LPA+) to a good chunk of students. In short: campus placements are strong for CSE/AI-ML if I prepare well. The support from the placement cell helps with training and interview prep, but final results still depend largely on my skills.
