Entrance Preview

I gave JEE MAINS 2013 exam and scored 150 marks out of 360. I chose Thapar University due of its excellent academic structure and new improvised courses that were being introduced here. I had interest in automobile engineering so i wanted to pursue Mechanical engineering. But that branch was not available for my rank so i chose Mechatronics engineering branch.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is excellent with focus on fully implementing the technical knowledge being offered and is constantly improved based on the feedback of students and faculty. With the tie up with Trinity college, Dublin, the course structure has been improvised to impart practical knowledge in synergy with the theoretical knowledge.

Internships Opportunities

One semester is dedicated to the industrial training. For Mechanical and Mechatronics students, the internship period is for the sixth semester and for rest of the branches the internship period is either for the seventh or eighth semester. For Mechanical and Mechatronics branch, around 50 companies offered internship to students.

Placement Experience

4.5

Thapar University was ranked 8th best university in India on the terms of placement during the period 2015-16. A total of 172 companies visited the campus and all over 1106 offers were made. Almost 95% of the students got placed. This is the link for the placement data for the period of 2014-15 enlisting the details of the companies visiting the campus.Average package for the Computer Science and Electronics branch was about 8 lac p.a. The average package for the mechanical, mechatronics branch was about 5.5 lac p.a.

5

Technical and Cultural fests are regularly conducted within the university. The main technical fest 'SATURNALIA' is conducted around the month of October. It includes technical events followed by a star night.Other cultural events such as Mudra, Karaoke Night are organized which bring out the singing, dancing and modelling talent of the students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is relatively expensive. Additionally the accommodation facilities of hostels increase the hole in the wallet. The total expenditure for four years comes at around 12 lacs. The infrastructure and accommodation facilities are worth the expenditure.

Fees and Financial Aid

Students securing more than 95% marks in 12th exams are offered a meritorious scholarship of Rs. 1,86,000 on joining the university. The University also honours and offers scholarships to the first three meritorious students of each branch every year. Additionally a bright student from financially inadequate background can apply for some relief.

Campus Life

4.5

The gender ratio is balanced. There are adequate number of male and female students in the college. The campus life is en thrilling and enjoyable. Various activities are organised every day after 5 p.m. The COS complex is a hub for students to spend their leisure time.

Alumni/Alumna

An alumni network is maintained by various societies and it is really helpful. Some students get chance to gain internship experience due to the alumni links. Efforts are made to sustain the relations in an amicable way.

Exam Structure

Exams are conducted for two times during the semester : Mid Sem Tests and End sem Tests. The assessment is done on basis of these tests, short quizzes, lab evaluations and regular class performance in tutorials. The grading system is relative, which means the student getting the maximum marks gets full grades.

Admission

The form for Thapar University is released near the month of May. It can be filled online or the hard copy of the registration form can be collected from the university. Interested students can fill their form till the month of June. The Counselling for the applicants begins in the month of July and carries on till mid august. The main aim is to impart as much relevant technological knowledge about the subject as possible. The faculties are regularly working on funded large scale research projects, so their knowledge and exposure is really astounding.

Placement scenario is good and it is improving since then. TPO looks after this process and it is responsible to call comapnies to the college and discuss about the eligibility of the students who can appear for the placements. For internships, students in the 3rd year appear for it while for placements 4th year students can appear. The average package is approx. 8-9 LPA while the highest has gone to 64 LPA during my college duration. Almost all students get placement.

Though when I got admission in this college, I saw the placement rates were very nice, around 95%, but maybe it was our session's fault. I passed out in 2024, and in that particular year, the placements were not as expected and as seen in the previous batch, so that was something very much disappointing because I paid so much money on a degree, only everything was good about the college, but in the end, placement matters during my session. Usually, the companies that hired for example, 10 students only hired two students.

College does provide a decent number of companies to students to get placed but as per seniors Companies come with good package but students fail to grab them. Students are eligible for placement form 7th semester. As data given to us from t&p for this year currently the minimum package is 6 lpa and average is touching 8 but don't get excited it's just the starting months of placement season. My plan is to get a good college for post grad as that was my plan from the start ??
