What Students Say
Likes
- My college was vast enough with everywhere plants and trees planted. It had clear dissections of the departments and other areas. The culture is good and motivating.
- It had 5 canteens dispersed at different locations so eventually one was always near to some canteen. The college had various clubs which was always open to all. This gave alot of exposure to the students while giving them a platform.
- Placement status has been considerably good there also it is increasing. The TPO is working on 100% placement result which it achieved this year as per LinkedIn post.
Dislikes
- Less budget alloted to the clubs and when the fests were organised. This could be improved.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course was relevant to the industry standards. As I had joined the textile industry, all the things that I studied in the college helped me professionally as well. The thing needs to be focused is on the practical knowledge where the lab machines should be in the working conditions. Teachers taught using the smart board and we attened the lectures in the Lecture Theatre.
Internships Opportunities
or internship, I did the marketing internship in the 3rd year. We were needed to show the certificate of the internship and make report as it was reviewed by the faculty at the end of the 3rd year. Further, we had minor project for 3rd year students and major project for 4th year students.
Placement Experience
Placement scenario is good and it is improving since then. TPO looks after this process and it is responsible to call comapnies to the college and discuss about the eligibility of the students who can appear for the placements. For internships, students in the 3rd year appear for it while for placements 4th year students can appear. The average package is approx. 8-9 LPA while the highest has gone to 64 LPA during my college duration. Almost all students get placement.
Fees and Financial Aid
I was in the batch 2020-2024, B.Tech in Textile Technology. The fee structure is same for all the branches in the college. I was a day scholar so no hostel opted and aslo no mess fee given. I paid for the regular semester fee along with the bus facility. In the first semester, I paid admission fee and the semester fee altogther which costed around 90k-95k. However, from semester 2 to semester 8, the fee structure was same i.e around 75000-78000. The bus facility chareges were 3000/- each semester. Though I didn't opt for the hostel facility, I still have the idea about it's fee structure. So, mess fee was around 35000 and the hostel rent was 10000 per semester. Also in the starting, a security amount of 10000 has to be given which is refunded after completion of semester. My batchmates who were of other categories had lesser fee. They gave around 18000-20000 per semester. However if they availed hostel facility then they would pay the same amount as the other students. Hostel fee and mess fee were same for all categories. Considering it to be a government college and the degree I opted for, it had lesser fee structure as compared to the private institutions. It was quite affordable along with the all the facilities provided.
Campus Life
The overall experience was good as I was quite active and participated in the co-curicular activities. I was the Head of IIC (one the clubs) along with being the event host for the Think India club. Further I was the CR in the initial 2 years of my college life and the I was elected as the PR i.e placement represemtative. All in all it was a good experience as I got alot of opportunities whihc boosted my confidence. All the facilities are available there such as playground for football, bastketball, badminton and other sports as well. There is free gym service where any student who studies in NITJ can go for free. It had separate timings for girls and boys.
Admission
NIT Jalandhar is the only NIT college who has Textile Technology as its branch. So here itself the value is increased. If I compare other colleges with this with same branch and course then still NIT Jalandhar holds more value. To take admission in NIT Jalandhar, one has to clear JEE Mains with good percentile. To be eligible for this college you should have done 12th class with PCM along with atleast 75% marks in PCM.
Faculty
The faculty throughout the branches were all supportive and understanding. Often students faced issues while Professors understood the situation and helped ion the way possible. The faculty is approachable even attended the calls to solve queries. Since I was in the Textile Technology Department, I would like to mention Dr. Monica Sikka Ma'am and Palanniswammy Sir. Though each faculty gave their input but personally these two teachers helped me alot. Whenever I had any issue they attended it and helped me resolve the same. Provided guidance during the placement season. Regarding exam pattern, we had 2 sessions of minor exams and 1 session of major exam. On an average there were 5-6 subjects in each semester. Minor exams were their to basically increase the chances of getting better CGPA and prepare for the major exams. The exam pattern was easy and mostly students passed the exam if even they had studied a bit.
Night Life
2 canteens were opened till 4 in the morning. Library is also available with the library pass. The library is opened till 6 in the evening. It also has reading room which is opened till 10 pm for girls and for boys it is opened all day. The college also has an open theatre which is quite famous there. There are timings for girls as girls can only be out in the campus till 10:30 pm while boys can be out as they wanted. It was open for them. However, for the 1st year studnets, they have certain time restrictions as they need to get in the hostel by 7 pm in the eveneing. This is to maintain decorum and avoid any unnecessary fights.
