Journey of a mechanical Engineering student in Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia is India's one of the most prestigious universities. It is a central university located in the heart of the national capital in New Delhi. It provides world-class facilities for various courses offered there. The faculty there is one of the best in the country. The laboratories are equipped with the latest machines and equipment. The canteens are subsidized and the quality of food is good. The Sports Complex has world-class facilities and revamped for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The Faculty of Engineering & Technology ranks under the top 20 colleges in India. Admission here is on the basis of JEE Mains Score and a separate application has to be filled for admission through the JMI admission portal. The placement record is good here with all the major MNCs visiting the campus. The fees are considerably low compared to other NITs providing the same facilities. One of the major pros of studying in Jamia is it's location, right in the heart of Delhi. Ciao. Go for it.

Mechanical Engineering was my first preference in the list of courses offered. There were 25 faculty members in the department. There were around 70-75 students in each class. The faculty is top-notch with all the professors and assistant professors having PHDs from IIT and other top international universities. There are two mid-term exams each semester along with weekly quizzes.

Students become eligible for placements from the third year. In fact, they start getting opportunities like internships and technical training right from the second year. Major Companies in Mechanical Engg. a branch that visits the campus includes Seimens, Larsen & Toubro, Cummins, ZS Associates, Wipro, TCS, IBM, L&T Construction, etc. The highest package offered was 9 lakh CTC and the average package offered was 5 lakh CTC for the mechanical branch. Around every student who sits for placement gets a job offer here by the end of the placement drive. Many students go for higher education in top colleges in India and abroad. Overall 80% of the students get placed. I was placed in Larsen and Toubro in the 7th semester and after the completion of my degree, I joined the company in August 2020 virtually owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The fees are subsidized and yearly fees are less than 10000 Rs. for every course offered here in Bachelors program. Other than that, various scholarship schemes for the needy and deserving are provided by the Dean of Students Welfare department JMI.

Different tech and cultural fest go year-round in the college. M.A Ansari auditorium and Open Amphitheatre host these festivals. There is Library in the Faculty of Engineering other than the Central Library which is one of the largest libraries in Delhi. All books ranging from technical to philosophical are available here and good condition. The rooms are standard classrooms with Smart classrooms features installed in there recently. There are many clubs like Drama Club , Poetry Club, Sports Club and Socities like The Robotics Society JMI, SAE JMI, ASCE JMI chapter for students to explore the ongoing advancements in their field.
