Maitreyi College, BA, Computer Science

Remarks

It is one of the best college i would say the experience was very unique and fun-filled u will miss a lot of things after passing out.

Entrance Preview

I scored 83% and got admission in many colleges like venky, JMC, and Maitreyi. However, i choose this college particularly because i heard that faculty is good. Also, i loved the infrastructure of the college, particularly gardens. Moreover, it is a girl's college and i thought it would be fun to study while not being bothered by any teen-age dramas.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Course curriculum i thought was very basic and not much advanced as it was the first batch that year for computer science. This course helped me clear my basics however, for advance studies i opted for GNIIT side by side. The curriculum lacked proper designing and the college was not very strict so most of the student lacked focus. However, our faculty was good and it gave proper time and efforts on students who were actually serious about their studies.

Internships Opportunities

Nope it did not provide internship there was no such thing like that the only internship you could do was to complete your colleagues assignment and get paid by them for it.

Placement Experience

2

Placements and job opportunity did not existed at that time. The only company that came in was Google Inc that too for adword executive position and lastly they hired 2-3 students from English Hons. courses only. I was able to clear the initial rounds, but at last they choose from English hons., as the profile they were looking for matched best with that course and other students from other course like me being from computer science was anyhow not interested.

College Events

4.5

The only big event was college fest but it was quite messed up. There was no extra effort to make it good. However, the dance community was the one who was seen putting in all the effort. Rest all the arrangements were average. And apart from that whole year there was no event.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees was very nominal and affordable. you can pay from your pocket money, it was that ind of amount. Most of my friends used to pay from their pocket money including me. So of course after admission anyone can easily afford to be in this college. Moreover, during 3 years i have seen faculty helping out many needy students, so that was a great attitude by the faculty.

Fees and Financial Aid

No i don't have much knowledge about loan and scholarship facilities. However, i am sure there were many private banks and institutes taking care of that.

Campus Life

3

College life was chilled out girls would be seen roaming around, listening music, dancing, chilling on collage railing, talking over phones in beautiful gardens. Being girls college attitude fights could be seen happening around quite frequently but that too is a part of fun as these fights were not serious but funny! you will miss such sights after college.

Hostel Facilities

5

There was no hostel in this college. However, the college canteen is the best place to be. In whole south campus our college was famous for its orange colored macaroni. I still miss that and whenever i am around that area i make sure to get it packed for myself and my family.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is not that strong but in past 10 years i got a mail once about the alumni meet but i believe not much turned up for the meet. But seniors were helpful always and a good vibe is shared between everyone specially after passing out.

Exam Structure

Exam structure was very chilled out. It was fairly very easy to clear the exams by putting up very little effort. We used to study just one night before to clear the exam. Even lab tests were very easy going, nobody needed to study much if they were attentive in class through out the year.

Faculty

3

Faculty was well qualified however few of them did not took much effort and were very lenient. That must be because they knew they could not control or govern college kids so they were of easy going attitude. But if students approached them for any kind of help (studies or other), all of them were very supportive.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose political science because i want to go for government exams and political science is an important subject for clearing government exams As per my info, my curriculum is very close to syllabus for exams like UPSC and SSC For improving teaching methods, projectors should be installed and implemented as it helps us to understand and see it more better The frequency of exam is twice a year as semester exam, and exam is not very tough nor too easy, it is medium level that anyone can score good marks if studied well.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Regarding course curriculum, I am not satisfied the additional courses like SAC, VAC, AEC have no purpose, they are just a headache which makes it difficult for students to focus on the main subjects, although I am in favour of GE subjects. The marking scheme of 90 marks written paper and 70 marks for internal is also great. Apart from this talking about political science honours curriculum, I will say it is pretty great, there are difficult concepts and bulky material to study from but it could be improved by reducing the weight/ pressure put up by other subjects- sec,vac...

Companies visit are often at our college like Deloitte, wipro , Infosys , KPMG etc but options are wide only for commerce background students they are limited for arts faculty students like me. Highest package is about 6 to 7 lpa while most of the package ranges between 4 to 6 lpa percentage of students getting are average and they are mostly from comm letce and economic or business background. I would go for journalism and choose IIMC for my master's.
