Remarks
The college administration was a bit lethargic and inefficient, but all in all it was a nice place to be.
Entrance Preview
I cleared the cut off which was 88 percent. I chose this college because it has a reputation and prestige.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course was diverse and intense with electives ranging from philosophy to economics. The course covered english literature from renaissance to modern era. Some of the courses were mandatory while there was an option for literary theory and contemporary literature papers.
Internships Opportunities
Not the english dept. But there were internships for commerce courses at various orgsnisations and startups and stipend usually ranged from 10 k to 25 k per month.
Placement Experience
A lot of companies from google to ibm visit the hansraj campus every year and almost 70 per cent of the student are placed on campus. The salary package of companies varies from course to course with economics hons and b.com hons getting the highest packages and arts courses getting lowest packages. But it also depends on the skill set of students.
College Events
We usually had one campus fest with large participation of students from all over the city, and which was sponsored by big corporations and multi media houses. A lot competitions formed part of the fest and there were band performances too. Apart from that we also had individual department events and fest from time to time.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees of the college was 4000 per year which was feasible to anyone coming from a middle class background but students coming from working classes might have found them high. However, you could avail a lot of scholarships by presenting the income certificate and caste certificate. So, all in all, fee structure was quite feasible.
Fees and Financial Aid
There were some scholarships for the people coming from low income backgrounds. Usually there is a concession or waiver in the fee.
Campus Life
The student section of hansraj college was highly diverse in terms of social class, ethnicity, caste and sexuality. The gender ratio was almost 1: 1. The college was a varied range of societies and clubs which narrowed down the gap between differences of caste, class, gender et al. A lot of cultural workshops were also held from time to time to address the numerous social and political of our times.
Hostel Facilities
I was staying in a pg in vijay nagar, where the average rent was 10 k, which was quite inaffordable for a lot of students. Also, girls have extra restrictions since they have deadline in the evenings which made us unable to access university library during the evenings.
Alumni/Alumna
The seniors in college were really helpful and supportive. They also provided us with notes and reading material on difficult courses like the course on literary theory. We could approach them anytime and ask for help for not only studies but on tips to organise fests, events, cultural programmes and seminars.
Exam Structure
Since i was enrolled in the annual mode of evaluation, there was ample time to discuss, write projects and assignments. We had one round of internal assesment which happened in december and the main external exams happening in march. So there was a good amount of time to study and revise.
Faculty
The faculty at hansraj was immensely qualified and approached classroom teaching with an emphasis on participative learning. They were easy to approach and talk to. They also gave us excellent notes and readings on papers we were studying. They also organised a lot of seminars.
