Remarks

As an ECA student, you don’t really choose the college, the college chooses you. If that makes sense. This was however in 2017 and things have changed due to COVID now. We were supposed to apply at every college and then they roll out lists with names of accepted student. Out of the colleges I was selected at, I chose to go with Maitreyi because I was really impressed with the infrastructure and community around it. I also had relatives living nearby so it was a better choice for me than any other college I was getting on the south campus. The admission process was VERY smooth for me and the staff was 10000 times more helpful than any other college I’d been to.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I chose political science simply because I did not get Psychology hon in that college. However the faculty was amazing, and I’m glad I studied Pol (Nikita Ma’am). There were two sections for Hindi and English medium with approximately 50-60 students in each class.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

The companies are usually those which are not offering any stipend for the work they expect from students. They are mostly start-ups and are looking for tech-savvy students who can help them in their everyday interaction with customers. However, some companies do offer a very good stipend to the students they hire from the campus. There has been a constant improvement in the quality of companies and roles being offered by them year by year.

Placement Experience

2

Students become eligible from the second year for campus placements however they can opt for internships through the internship fair from the first year itself. several companies do visit and offer employment however they are mostly restricted to commerce stream and for arts is that it’s mostly focused on sales which is a little restrictive. The highest package has to be 6 lakh per annum that I saw last year and the average package is usually 2.5 lakh per annum. The percentage of students getting placements is not very high but they do get placed. I did not sit for placements and I have been pursuing post-graduation.

Fees and Financial Aid

We gave 4000 as fees. There was no hike. A scholarship exists for BPL students. The fees are affordable for those who belong to the middle-class however it can be a little costly for BPL students. There are continuous fairs and competitions being held where prize money can be won but they are not restricted only to BPL students.

Campus Life

5

The annual fest is called Rhapsody and it’s conducted in February every year. The fest is organised by the student union and they are the ones who collect funds for it and get sponsorship deals from brands and companies. The college does provide financial help for it but it’s mainly the sponsors who make the appearance of big stars as the showstoppers possible as is, with every DU college. There is a library and you can find any book for your course in it. it’s free to borrow and use. There aren’t any special amenities in the classroom with there just being a blackboard and chalk But the amazing teachers make the whole experience worthwhile. The college is very active in sports and there is a sports quota as well. For extracurricular activities, I would recommend the film club. You can also find their page by the name Filmesque.Maitreyi on Instagram.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose political science because i want to go for government exams and political science is an important subject for clearing government exams As per my info, my curriculum is very close to syllabus for exams like UPSC and SSC For improving teaching methods, projectors should be installed and implemented as it helps us to understand and see it more better The frequency of exam is twice a year as semester exam, and exam is not very tough nor too easy, it is medium level that anyone can score good marks if studied well.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Regarding course curriculum, I am not satisfied the additional courses like SAC, VAC, AEC have no purpose, they are just a headache which makes it difficult for students to focus on the main subjects, although I am in favour of GE subjects. The marking scheme of 90 marks written paper and 70 marks for internal is also great. Apart from this talking about political science honours curriculum, I will say it is pretty great, there are difficult concepts and bulky material to study from but it could be improved by reducing the weight/ pressure put up by other subjects- sec,vac...

Companies visit are often at our college like Deloitte, wipro , Infosys , KPMG etc but options are wide only for commerce background students they are limited for arts faculty students like me. Highest package is about 6 to 7 lpa while most of the package ranges between 4 to 6 lpa percentage of students getting are average and they are mostly from comm letce and economic or business background. I would go for journalism and choose IIMC for my master's.
