Remarks
Yes, we may have a lot of problems, but hey this is the part of life that create a lot of memories, friendships and many more. So, I don't have any negative reviews for my college.
Entrance Preview
I had a state rank 145 (air 3303) in JEE main'13 and got a chance NITW Electronics and Communication. I had a good score in JEE Adv and WBJEE too. I chose this college because I knew JU was a very prestigious college in India, it will provide me a better option than other NITs and other colleges. I have come from a rural background, and I am kind of homesick, so I didn't want to leave my native state.
Course Curriculum Overview
I think that course structure does not have much influence in the career of an engineer. The course is basically universal, and every student goes through almost same curriculum. For a computer engineer like us, we just need data structures, algorithms, dbms, os to be perfect, other subjects do not really matter.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, of course. A lot of multi national companies come and recruit full time employees and interns from their campus recruitment. Some most renowned companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, De Shaw, Goldman Sachs, Visa, Sap Labs, Texas Instruments visited our campus lately. I have done an internship at Samsung R&D India, Bangalore, and got a PPO from them. During internship period, our stipend was 35,000/month.
Placement Experience
Job opportunities are just great in Jadavpur University. I am the Placement Co-ordinator(PC) of our department, so it is my pleasure to say that, most of these companies offer 18-30 LPA.
College Events
We have 2 fests celebrated in Jadavpur University. The first one is a tech fest, SRIJAN, organised by faculty of engineering students, in our saltlake campus. In Srijan, we have several competition like Mathemagician, Robowar, Code Breaker, de-Bug, Robo soccer etc. Second one is Sanskriti, a 24 day long cultural fest organised by arts faculty, science faculty and engineering faculty.
Fee Structure And Facilities
This is the best part of being in Jadavpur University. Most students like me, came from rural and lower/middle class background, who cannot spend much on the fees for engineering college. We have a fee structure of rs.200/month, i.e 1200/semester, which is incredibly cheap. This is why most people prefer JU.
Fees and Financial Aid
Jadavpur University is cheaper enough to study here. I don't think anything like this is provided from the university itself. But there are some authorities, Ngo who provide scholarship to the needy people.
Campus Life
In the university, Gender ratio is almost 1:1. In science faculty, it is 1:1, in engineering faculty, it Is 9:1, in arts faculty it is 1:9. (almost). A lot of extracurricular activities are done on almost daily basis by student groups. We have mountaineering club, photography club, painting club, swimming club, gym, science club, coding club etc, and I am a part of almost all of them.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are cheaper too. The rent for living in the hostel Rs 5(Yes, I didn't believe it too when I came to know about it for first time ). People get internet connection in just Rs 20, which is unbelievable too. Food in hostel is worse than you can think of. But its, okay, university is providing people that much, so it is not a big deal.
Alumni/Alumna
People, been here, cannot forget Jadavpur University. Almost all of them have contacts and have frequent communication with the juniors and professors.
Exam Structure
Examination system here is semester based. In our course we have 8 semesters. In each semester, we have two internals, and marks from these internals have 30% weight age in semester. Each semester, we have 6 subjects and 4 sessionals. So, in this structure, exams are kinda frequent.
Faculty
Professors here are qualified, generous and interested in teaching. A lot of research work are done in our department. Professors are very helpful, and devoted people, spreading knowledge. Some of our professors have PhD form renowned international universities, so there is no confusion on their qualification.
