Remarks
The experience was an over all good experience with some little hiccups here and there. But the college needs to focus more on technology updation- which is good for the recent for the new physics, maths, bio tech and chemical departments but old departments are still not upgraded. The social interactions are decent but still can be improved. The teacher student interactions need to be improved. The best thing about the college is the nature that surrounds which is so pure and the best of what i have experienced till date.
Entrance Preview
I wrote AIEEE and got a rank around 16300. Initially i got admission in civil engineering later on my branch slide to Electrical(EEE). It was the best choice for my rank.
Course Curriculum Overview
Though the curriculum is very good in core aspects of Electrical engineering it still needs to be updated to the existing technologies. For examples the curriculum still includes engineering drawing which could be replaced with auto-cad or similar now-a-day available software. Professor are excellent but the college needs to ramp up its facilities for the existing strength of students. Despite of the above reasons there ample opportunities available within the campus to quench your thirst for knowledge.
Internships Opportunities
College does provide such opportunities but number of companies that visit the college for interns is less. The only possibility with in the college is to approach a professor and request or apply for research internship. Else the student has to strive himself to get one.
Placement Experience
There are ample placement opportunities. Being a college of national importance monitored by MHRD it does provide good number of placement but provided the student has a good to decent GPA with communication skills. I was placed with Deloitte consulting with a package of 6 LPA. The average package varies for department to department with CS majorly topping the list (there are good core placements as well).
College Events
There are two major events: Tathva- annual cultural fest held in the monsoon semester it is one of the noted tech-fests in south India. Many students from top colleges participate in the fest. It also has Technites which are generally hosted by celebrity singers.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees if pretty much okay with approximately 20 K for each semester when I was studying. Now after the fee hikes i think the fee for each semester approximately doubled. The DASA candidates have a different fee structure and charged more than the AIR rank students.
Fees and Financial Aid
Certain scholar ships are available like the REC alumnus scholarship etc. It will be announced or notified on the website and kept on the notice board. College supports student loans and provides the estimated money required to complete the degree.
Campus Life
Campus life- I would rate it as 7/10. It is more than decent. Gender ratio- It is worse the no of females are very less compared to male students. I would rate it as 5/10 or may be even less. Diversity- The campus has good diversity among the students though most of the students are Malayalees you have good no of people form Andhra, Telangana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh there are people from North eastern states as well, Nit Calcutta under takes Nit Sikkim. I would rate student diversity as 8/10, I would rate faculty diversity as 6/10-most of the faculty are Malayalees. Extracurricular- I would rate it as 7.5/10. There are good number of clubs and they regularly conduct club events. Labs- I would rate it as 7.5/10. Few labs need to be upgraded. Sports- I would rate it as 7/10.These a swimming pool, cricket stadium, tennis court, indoor stadium. But they need to ramp up. Robotics and events- I would rate it as 8/10.There is a robotic club called RIG. Over all experience would be-7.5/10.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are good the toilets are regularly cleaned and maintained hygienically. A recent addition to the hostel infrastructure are the Mega hostels with very good facilities and awesome Ambiance. Within each hostel you have a common room with facilities like TV carom board etc.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni are not very helpful up until 2013 after that we got an Alumni network. They post job offers internships etc. on the site.
Exam Structure
It is not very hectic but the college follows a continuous evaluation process. So there are two mid semester exams contributing 25% each and a final semester exam with 50% of the total. It is mostly relative grading system but may vary slightly depending on the professor.
Faculty
Faculties are highly qualified and very experienced. But due to the increase in number of seats by MHRD the teacher to students ratio takes a toll, though decent the number of teacher are some what inadequate for the existing strength of students. Having said that, still there is absolutely no hurdle for the student to learn and excel in his subjects as he gets enough time and facility to interact with the faculty.
