Remarks

Good remarks, it is on the culture this university faculty and students bring. But the administration is yet to take care of several important issues of the students, such as of hostels and mess.

Entrance Preview

I took the university research entrance exam (R.E.T.) and got selected after an interview by the teachers of the department. I study in the Dept. of Economics & Politics, Visva Bharati. I opted this college out of all others as the teaching and environment is based on the principles of Gurukul Mode of teaching.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course was rigorous and took care of almost most of the areas of subject studies. The student teacher interaction is awesome and healthy. The course included mainly of research methodology and the procedure of data collection and analysis. Moreover,I took two optional subjects related to my specific field of research and is compulsory for the curriculum. There are optional subjects related to almost all field of study in the subject.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college doe not provide internship. But unpaid and non-institutional, faculty based internships are there. Several students even from abroad apply to the department's professors for one or two month unpaid internship. It is completely, non-institutional.

Placement Experience

1.5

No campus recruitment takes place as such in the university. But recommended students from faculty and senior fellows get off-campus jobs and recruitment. Mostly, our ex-students are engaged in research institutions, colleges and universities as research officers or teachers.

College Events

4.5

Several cultural activities takes place in Visva Bharati. Such as, quiz, debate, art competition, etc. Its one of the most decorated university in terms of festivals and celebrations. Holi or Dol utsab , Poush mela, Anandabazaar Mela, Art fair, etc takes place. You need to visit Santiniketan at least once in your life.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is quite feasible in nature. Only 10,000 INR is the annual fee of university plus if you take hostel accommodation and food, you need to pay an additional 18,000 INR every annual. Moreover there are new AC, Wi-fi enabled hostels where the fees are kind of one-third higher than the total hostel fees.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

No such scholarship is available with the university. But definitely the Govt. Scholarships and facilities are well directed by the university to the students.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life is full of creative, enthusiasts, smart peoples and critics. The culture of campus is full of art lovers, such as of theater, singing, dancing, photographers, sculptures , linguists ,and more. The university team almost every year brings National prizes in the inter-university youth competitions. In sports the university reaches state and national levels too, and have also brought few national prizes in women basketball, men football , chess etc,

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostel facilities are good but the service of the university on hostels are poor. The mess provides poor quality foods and the students are not satisfied with the service. The hostel have 24 hours cold water facility and are equipped with security guards. The university rooms are quite comfortable but it combines both old and new infrastructure of hostels.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes, a very healthy alumni network is there which help the students a lot.The seniors are informative and helpful too.

Exam Structure

Exam structure is semester based. But often sudden tests and weekly test comes up to judge the students preparedness for exams. The college is very rigorous and the attendance is strict. The students are always left with a hectic day. Computer Labs are one of the very interesting classes to meet.

Admission

At first I applied for the Ph.D. in Economics position with a research proposal based on my research objectives. Then got a call letter and was selected to appear in the research entrance test (R.E.T.) exam. After few days my result got out and had to appear before the Board of Studies (B.O.S.) for the interview for selection. Defended my research objectives and then got selected in the program.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty of the college are learned, well qualified and friendly. The student teacher ratio is very good. The teachers are dedicated towards the teaching as well as very much devoted to their own research interests. The department is blessed with a variety of teachers affiliated to different field of study on the subject. The departmental faculty academic culture is heterogenous in nature and both mainstream as well as radicals belong here.

Placement Experience:

There is no chance to get a placement or job from our college. But if we passed out with good marks then we may try to different houses like print media, online media, broadcasting media for internship and then we may join there.
