Remarks

Talented students come to this college because of the reputation of this college but after 4 years they leave unsatisfied with what they achieve.I would blame it on the ill-management and lack of administrative invlovements, absolutely no flexibilities are provided.Thapar university is just becoming a side business for THAPAR INDUSTRY.

Entrance Preview

JEE Mains-178/360 and 93% in CBSE 12th.At my marks only average college where I could get CSE was Thapar university.

Course Curriculum Overview

2

It is actually followed from foreign universities and has flexible elective s.it is being followed from bits and MIT model and electives options are as per the required by our generation. And recently the college has had tie ups with trinty college, Dublin regarding Research, internships and student exchange program .so research opportunities are great indeed

Internships Opportunities

No they don't .we have to make our own way.But recently the college has had tie ups with trinty college, Dublin regarding Research, internships and student exchange programs. o maybe it's a time for change, apart from that there are many companies that come for internships.

Placement Experience

2.5

For CSE and mechanical placements are above average but for the rest of branches its average being still living on its previous And recently the college has had tie ups with trinty college, Dublin regarding Research, internships and student exchange program, so maybe the placement would improve, but mostly MNCs come for placements and the recent data has been good purely because of the talent in students.

College Events

3

There is only 1 techno-cultural fest Saturnalia.Participation is very close to nil.prizes are not worth taking effort, events are not that bigStudents from over 15 colleges from around the country participated various cultural competitions, ranging from Hindi, English and Punjabi Singing, Bhangra, Western Dance, Mimicry, Twisted Movie, Movie Making, Nukkad Natak and Fashion Show. The event commenced on 21st March with the Dean of Student Affairs, Thapar University, Dr. Seema Bawa and Mr. PK Bajpayee, Director, TU lighting the lamp. Post an Inaugural Fashion Show, Rock band and Giddha performances, the various competitions were conducted in the following three days.

Fees and Financial Aid

The university awards 50 scholarships with a value of Rs.93, 000 (Rs. 62, 000 + Rs. 31, 000) and 50 more scholarships with a value of Rs.62, 000 to the students with the consideration of the All India rank in JEE (Main) examination. The scholarship is provided to the students who wish to pursue B.E/ B/Tech first year at the Thapar University.

Campus Life

1

Gender ratio is good than many other engineering collegesCultural events and sports activities are really competitive as there are many students who come through sports quota, diversity quotaDiversity is not great as max students are from punjab due to 50% quota.Otherwise cultural life is at its high.

Hostel Facilities

2

They are good but obviously it's of value to the money we pay. This is hostel J one of the best in Asia.A hostel with 7-storey building, surely deserve a place in top hostels of India. You can enjoy pleasure of both Single Room living and Shared Room living : Closed group of 11 single rooms in each wing with a common hall, common restroom.24*7 mess* (Could you name me any other hostel which has this facility.)1 LED television for each group of 11 students. (I doubt if any other hostel would have this ratio)Awesome location of the hostel -- from each room you can have beautiful view of campus, football ground, maal road and all nature's beauty.A Balcony for every room.A cricket bat and ball for each wing. (Ever thought of getting this in hostel?)A refrigerator, an Aquaguard, A sofa set for each wing of 11 people. (I don't expect a better ratio for academic hostel in India.A hostel mess where at times you can have Domino's Pizza for lunch!

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is strong and proper society is made to act as a bridge between the students and alumni(SAIC)

Exam Structure

MSTs, ESTs and quizes and lab evaluations along with tut tests and project briefings and submissions. They are frequent and with all tut tests, quizzes and 75% attendance it extracts ur time for socio-cultural lifestyle. And recently the college has had tie ups with trinty college, Dublin regarding Research, internships and student exchange program, So the examination structure would also be followed from Trinity college Dublin.

Faculty

1

Not at all good .at least for the money that we pay.All of them are mostly mtechs pursuing their PHDs in thapar university, and they have no interest in actual teaching of subject.all they want is to finish the course structure and syllabus so that exams can take place and no actions are against them. Most of the teachers don't have technical knowledge of the subject they teach and just come in class and stand for whole 1 hr.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
