Remarks
There are few colleges in West Bengal which offers Biotechnology as a B. Tech course. Hence, according to my preference, I chose Heritage Institute of Technology since it had the best reviews among all the colleges that offered B. Tech in Biotechnology. The college also offers a lot of opportunities and exposure to the students which help them to pursue a career in their core fields after graduation.
Course Curriculum Overview
The latest update/modification on the course syllabus was done in 2018. In the third year of my course, we have a compulsory internship/industrial training as a part of our course. Besides that, a student can opt for a summer/winter internship or training course during the semester breaks. The college definitely helps the students to get familiar with the industrial demands and prospects during the course. The faculties are extremely qualified and help the students understand a topic from the ground up.
Placement Experience
TCS, Wipro, Infosys are among the most common recruiters and majority of students get placed in such IT companies. Hence, the placement rate can be termed decent. But there are lesser opportunities for core fields such as Biotechnology as of now. Overall, the CSE, IT and ECE departments are well placed.
College Events
There are several technical and cultural clubs in the college which encourage the students to actively take part in co-currucilar activities along with their academics. Unfortunately, the regularity of the college's own fest is severely halted for quite some time. The college fest 'Eclecia' was organised in 2017 for the last time and 'Heritage Utsav' was organised as an alternative to the fest organised by the students' council in 2019. In light of the recent events of the coronavirus pandemic, the college fest was cancelled in 2020.
Campus Life
The campus has multiple sports grounds, a huge library, a decent canteen and common rooms. The labs are properly equipped and updated with all necessary reagents/equipments required in the course curriculum.
