Remarks
Bethune College being one of the oldest institute in India has the best faculty. It is affiliated to Calcutta University and NAAC 'A' acrredited. It has a very good ranking among colleges offering Economics course in Kolkata. Moreover, Economics has been a subject of interest from school level, hence, it was my first choice for higher studies.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course syllabus was updated according to Calcutta University guidelines. However, the syllabus was a little lengthy for some topics to be covered up in a year. Industrial visits were not done. Faculty members are very experienced, cooperative and helpful. Economics department Head Dr. Suranjana Dasgupta and Associate Professors Dr. Satarupa Bandyopadhyay and Mrs. Maitri Ghosh were our guiding light.
Placement Experience
Placements have been a disappointment for me. There weren't too many companies invited for campus interviews, though TCS, Netscribes Pvt. Ltd. to name a few, had recruited some graduates in our final year. Alumni network does not seem to be strong enough to guide and help graduates, there is lack of communication.
College Events
The Students' Committee organises a cultural fest named 'AALAP' every year. Participants come from colleges all over Kolkata. Events include street play, fashion show, music, dance- eastern and western, non-fire cooking, nail art and lots more. Musicians and bands adorn the night as the guest perfomers. Essay competitions, dance competitions on both intra college and inter college level occur atleast twice a year.
Campus Life
The campus is huge including 5 buildings, 1 building for the collegiate school, playground, canteen, 2 libraries for Science and Arts streams. The campus is facilitated with WiFi for the use of the students. Laboratories are equipped with all types of equipments to carry out experiments. Webel (computer training institute) has been associated with the college, providing training to the students. Their curriculum is a part of the college curriculum, so students need not spend extra time for Webel's computer training program. Sports is also a part of the college's curriculum, yearly the Student Committee along with Sports Committee organises for Annual Sports Day.
