Bethune College is one of the renowned colleges in West Bengal. As you have opted for B.Sc Economics One of my friends also studied at Bethune College, so I might be able to provide some tips about this: Buy a last 5-year question or CBCS system previous year’s question as soon as possible. Calcutta University tends to give the same question in an odd-even-year system. Solve those papers and prepare accordingly as 60% of the questions will be similar. Make sure you utilize the profit of the online exam system. You can score 15-20% extra than offline exams. After the regular college classes if you need extra guidance to go for a coaching centre suggested by your seniors. Keep in touch with your seniors frequently, as they can guide you through a lot of things. Lastly, as Bethune is a very strict college, try to enjoy your college life, maintain a good relationship with your teachers and work hard and study well to make a successful career.

Bethune life

It's a government aided college with very minimal fees of 110 rupees per month. There are many scholarships given by the government such as kanyashree and Vidyasagar scholarship for economically backward students. Campus jobs are also provided with decent packages.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum hasn't been changed since 1900s or so. No industry exposure whatsoever. Internships were looked down upon. It's so old and regressive you'll feel like you've landed in some village. MG ma'am and SB ma'am were both proactive, helpful and knowledgeable.

The curriculum is fairly good but the one thing which Bethune really stands out is with regard to attendance. Students should be given more time for self study but attendance is of a big issue out here.

Now this system and syllabus are totally changed from my situation. In this CBCS system, the method of examination programme is semester based. Faculties are very good and efficient and very helpful. They guide students very well. The library facility and the stock of books are also very useful for students. In this CBCS structure, the pressure is very high on students as per syllabus length. Many items are included from MSc level which may not require I think.

The college follows the curriculum prescribed by the University of Calcutta which till our batch covered the standard topics of Economics well enough. The faculty have been very very helpful and cordial all throughout the course.

Our syllabus was quite updated. We had to do a term paper during our third year which helped me a lot. Doing a term paper means one has to research a lot and study thoroughly the subject and the topic. It increased my knowledge of the subject beyond the outline of the book covers. It helps one to have a practical knowledge. Apart from that, the syllabus was divided in such a way that one can get good marks if one follows the class regularly and remain up to date.

Course syllabus was updated according to Calcutta University guidelines. However, the syllabus was a little lengthy for some topics to be covered up in a year. Industrial visits were not done. Faculty members are very experienced, cooperative and helpful. Economics department Head Dr. Suranjana Dasgupta and Associate Professors Dr. Satarupa Bandyopadhyay and Mrs. Maitri Ghosh were our guiding light.

Faculties were very good very cooperative, international conferences were also held they give us lot to learn to interact with people. After graduation campus selections are also held. According to Calcutta university the syllabus are thought in the college

The couse is great and faculty is really student friendly. The course is not just centered around textbooks but there are active discussions in class related not just to topics in syllabus but also involves past and recent economic events. The teaching faculty is always ready to help students and the non teaching staff is always ready is ti lend a helping hand to a student in need.
