WB CAP 2024: The DHE Of West Bengal has instructed on a notice dated August 21 that all the colleges under West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal 2024 must complete the entire admission process for general courses by September 30, 2024.
The counselling process for undergraduate in general degree courses for the 2024-25 academic year concluded on September 7 in two phases. After completing the process, the admission authority decided to fill the vacant position in individual colleges in a standalone mode.
Earlier, the admission authority conducted the WB CAP 2024 mop-up round on August 8, 2024, and the process closed on September 7 with the physical verification round.

What is WB CAP 2024?
Bratya Basu, Education minister of West Bengal, announced a centralised admission process for undergraduate courses in state-run universities. This new admission process was conducted through a common portal wbcap.in from June 24, 2024. Through this centralised admission process candidates could take admission in 461 colleges and 16 universities.
The education minister stated that the new system would eliminate the problem of students with high marks taking multiple seats across different colleges. Through this portal, students could apply to a maximum of 25 undergraduate courses, out of the 7217 courses available in the system.

WB UG Eligibility Criteria 2024
The Department of Higher Education of West Bengal has determined several conditions for admission under WB UG Eligibility Criteria 2024. WB UG 2024 Eligibility Criteria for B.Com Course:
- For admission to B. Com. (Hons.), candidates must have studied and passed Mathematics/Business Mathematics in the qualifying examination.
- The selection process will be based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination, which includes one language and the three best subjects.
- To be eligible, applicants must have achieved an aggregate of 45% or more in English/Bengali and a combination of the best three subjects, which include Mathematics, Accountancy, Economics, and Business Studies/Commerce.
WB UG 2024 Eligibility Criteria for B.Sc Course:
- For admission to B. Sc. (Hons.), candidates must have studied and passed Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry/Biology in the qualifying examination.
- The selection process will be based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination, which includes one language and the three best subjects.
- To be eligible, applicants must have achieved an aggregate of 50% or more in English/Bengali and a combination of the best three subjects, which include Mathematics, Physics, Biology.
- Candidates need to secure at least 60% marks in the subject they are interested in applying for honours.

To register for WB UG 2024 Admission, candidates need to apply through WB CAP Portal. After logging into the portal candidates will be prompted to provide their personal and academic details to complete the registration process.

- After successful registration candidates need to fill the application form with all personal and academic details.
- The next step is to upload necessary documents with course preference

How Many People Applied Through WB CAP Portal 2024?
More than 5 lakh students applied through the West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal 2024. Among them around 4 lakh students got selected for admission into 477 institutions in Kolkata. This means around 1 lakh students could not get admission into their desired colleges. Considering the number of DHE, West Bengal has decided to take admission for general courses till September 30, 2024. For this process, concerned candidates have to visit their desired colleges' websites and apply for the vacant seats.
