DHE West Bengal has extended the deadline for admission to UG General Degree Courses. The last date for admission to the courses is 30 November 2024.

The Government of West Bengal's Department of Higher Education has announced an extension for undergraduate (UG) admissions in General Degree Colleges and Unitary Universities for the academic session 2024–2025. The deadline for admission has been extended to 30 November 205 to fill the vacant seats. This decision, detailed in a circular issued on 25th November 2024, aims to address the large number of vacant seats observed in various institutions across the state.

Key Highlights of the Circular:

  • Reopening of the Online Admission Portal: The Online Standalone Portal has been reopened immediately for colleges and universities requiring fresh applications for UG courses. This measure is expected to help fill vacant seats in institutions offering General Degree Courses.

  • Extended Admission Deadline: The UG admission process will now continue until 30th November 2024 to accommodate students and maximize seat utilization in state-aided universities and affiliated colleges.

  • Merit List Published: The Department of Higher Education also clarified that the merit list for UG admissions has already been published. Candidates are advised to log in to their respective dashboards on the admission portal to check their status and proceed with further steps.

Context of the Decision

The extension follows a review of UG admission data from colleges across West Bengal, which revealed that several seats remain unoccupied despite the earlier application and admission phases. The Competent Authority, considering the implications of unfilled seats, decided to provide additional time for students to apply and secure admissions.

Advisory for Students

Candidates waiting for the opportunity to apply are encouraged to utilize the extended timeline. Those already in the admission process must log in to their dashboards to verify their placement on the merit list and complete any pending formalities.

The circular emphasizes that all other directives, as notified in the earlier memorandum dated 21st August 2024, will remain unchanged. This initiative aligns with the state government's efforts to ensure access to higher education for eligible students and optimize institutional resources.
