Remarks

JU is now reserved to admit the student of W.B. only.Whereas in my time it was open to all.In my opinion institute are place where students should get an opportunity to develop himself/herself in totality rather than being just academic. And interaction of a student with another student of different region, culture, tradition, language and sharing the ideology between them is a part of overall development. This teaches a lot in making good relationship and keeping healthy environment with cooperative spirit which is a need while working in company. With this remark I wish JU should open/reserve the regional seats on percent basis. All other things are satisfactory to qualify a 5 star university.

Entrance Preview

I wrote WBJEE to get into the college. Exactly I can't remember how much I scored. But your rank should be within 500 to opt an engg. branch in the college. This is the best college/university in W.B. after IIT kgp. Even in few aspect JU leads IIT kgp also. For example. being a university here students get an opportunity to interact with multi-disciplinary students like arts, science, MBA, engg., commerce and medical which helps to enhance the superficial knowledge in all the areas. In few engg. branches labs are better than IITs.

Internships Opportunities

Normally as a part of coarse curriculum, college organises industrial visit to 4-6 industries in 7th semester of enng. These visit are totally sponsored by college. However in the summer vacation of 2nd year, almost all student arrange by their own intern-ship in any industry. We never faced any problem to get an arrangement for internship because our college alumni are very cooperative and help us in internship arrangement. They are well settled and working in almost every top most industry/organisation of India/abroad.

Placement Experience

4

My university technical side is known for placement. It has got 100% placement record almost every year. I remember during recession time also, my college specially my branch had a record of 90% campus selection. For mechanical, apart from MNCs and IT companies core company which comes for recruitments are, GE, TATA motors, Maruti, TELCON, ASHOK LEALAND, TISCKO, Reliance power, Reliance Oil, IOCL, BPCL, GAIL, ESSAR group, Schlumberger, EIL, TCE, MN dustur etc. An above avg. students holds min. two job while leaving the college atleast one is sure through campus selection.

College Events

4

In university we organised nos of technical and culture event such as departmental freshers welcome celebration followed by one common freshers welcome celebration with the intent for the interaction between the freshers and seniors of all departments like science, arts, technical, commerce background. Then we had annual cultural and arts event i.e. at the end of academic year. We also organised tech. festival in which students from different colleges and universities participated. They were given some technical and innovative task to complete. The winner group was awarded by judiciary. Normally those days in 2008 the budget of annual festival of cultural and technical events used to be 30-40 lac.Every year India's well known personalities or performers of various fields are invited for live show. In my time singers and musician like Vishal & Sekhar, Palash Sen, sitar player like Nishat Khan, bands like Indian Ocean and many more were invited and we enjoyed their live performance and felt the richness of Indian versatility.

Fee Structure And Facilities

In my view JU is the cheap and best academic institute in India. In my time I paid only 10000 as a tuition for four year engg. programme. I think, fee structure has not been reviewed till now. It is same as earlier.

Fees and Financial Aid

As a scholarship, I remember only topper had an opportunity to go abroad for internship in Virginia-Tech, USA fully sponsored by university in 6th semester. But for loan and all I have no idea. I personally think the fee we used to pay was very minimum, therefore required no loan to student. There was some scholarship/stipend scheme for north-east students.

Campus Life

4.5

In my opinion those were the best days of my life. Being a university with various department we used to interact with different types of student and used have discussion on various topics. We had outdoor and indoor stadium to facilitate all kind of sports with kit.In mechanical we had biggest workshop with around 60-70 lathe and NC, CNC, 20 milling, 15 shaper machines, gear forming machine. Hardly we see boiler or turbine in any college but we had that also in our university campus. Workshops for carpentry, fitter, and foundry, forgings and labs like thermal, fluid, applied mechanics, metrology, metallography and cad-cam all were available with necessary equipment and facility within the campus.Every individual student would get opportunity to use the equipment and operate it.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostel facility is average. Being government college we can't expect on par the corporate colleges or private college. However the amount we used to pay as hostel fee was very minimum and with respect to that facility was beyond expectation.Fee we used to pay was 40 rs monthly for room rent with 24 hrs water/current facility. Mess would run by students with no profit and no loss scheme. Therefore quality of food was on the hand of students. It is bad or good, accountability goes only to students.

Alumni/Alumna

We have good networking with alumni and they are well settled in various part of globe and working with top most companies, institution and organisation word-wide. I think this(networking) can further be improved and brought under one umbrella.

Exam Structure

In engg. discipline, we used to have 2 times internal class test of every subject followed by semester exam at the end of semester. These class test's marks also used to carry weight-age along with final semester marks. Each semester there used to be almost 6 subject. Being a Deemed university we had flexibility in fixing the dates of internal class tests. Based upon the collective decision and feasibility of students, the faculty used to decide the dates of class test. This helped a lot to study in fragmented parts therefore we never felt like overburdened. We had a wonderful labs and each labs had enough equipments. Attendance in labs was compulsory because this used to carry weight-age in viva at the end of semester. There used to be four sessionals every semester and it was mandatory to clear the sessional with passing marks to move into the next semester.

Faculty

4

JU holds one of the best faculties in India. Specially in my discipline i.e. mechanical engg., there are almost 60-70 faculty member and all are from good academic background. There are around 15-20 professor only in mechanical branch. Few professor are heading the research/development projects for research institute like ISRO/DRDO. Few professors are known for being pioneer of new upcoming core-area of Mechanical engg. like tribology.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements starting from the 7th semester. For placement drives, we have to visit the main campus, Techno Main Salt Lake (TMSL). Since students from other Techno India campuses and branches also participate, the competition is extremely high. In the 2025–2026 academic year, fewer companies visited. Only two companies, Dronahost and WishCare, visited our specific campus directly. The remaining drives—mostly service-based companies like TCS and EY, along with a few startups—were conducted at the main campus. The remaining drives mostly service based companies like TCS, EY etc and quite a few startups has visited to main campus. The package they offered mostly in between 3.5lpa - 6 lpa. Furthermore the selection process of those startups is quite rigorous often consisting of upto 5 rounds of interview, two technical rounds with two technical interviews, and HR round My plans after getting the degree is either pursue an MBA or preparing for govt jobs

Elegibility for placement-Generally students become elligible for campus placement in their 7th semester or 8th semester and there might be some prerequisties such as minimum CGPA must be 6-7 with no bachlogs Internship and pre-placement offers-many companies offer internships during the 6th semester or 7th semester and successful interns may receive pre-placement offers if their performance is good. Companies that visits campus: TCS Accenture Cognizent Infosys Wipro Capgemini Deloite Byjus Tech Mahindra Placement Percentage-On average 80%-90% of students may secure jobs through campus placements. However this numbers could vary across different departments and specialization Highest and average package-The highest salary offered at Techno India University was 24 LPA and the average salary was 4-5 LPA. Plans after getting the degree: My plans depends on placement. If I get a job of around 15 LPA then I will not do master degree and if I get job of around 4-5 LPA then I will do master for further great opportunities
