Remarks

Being a govt University the management is conscious but slow in meeting demands and issues of students.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The curriculum is as per AICTE and UGC standards, JU is autonomous has been allowed to shape it's own engineering syllabus. JU is highly research driven institute and has name all over India for it. It's research publications are as good as IITs and better than some IITs. The syllabus was recently updated 2 yrs ago to meet the industry standards, although some of the syllabus taught is still outdated. In most core departments the syllabus is highly important for campus placements.

Placement Experience

5

The placement is one of the best after IITs here in JU. In coveted CSE, ETCE, IT and Electrical departments average package goes around 12-20 lpa, and as high as 58lpa this year. There is a dedicated Training and placement cell in University. The percentage placed in circuit branches is as high as 90-100% and in non circuit branches it's about 65-80%. Major companies recruiting are Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Microsoft, Airbus, ABinbev, Samsung research, Bajaj, Aditya birla, Honeywell, Reliance industries Ltd,etc. PSUs also come in JU GAIL, BPCL, HOCL Bridge and roof, etc.

College Events

5

There are many cultural fests organised in college such as Sanskriti, Dance/fashion fest - Ibtida, Tech fest - Srijan. For debating it's JUMUN, and many others. Most of these fests are one of the biggest in Kolkata and in eastern region. Big sponsor come to advertise their brand in fests in JU.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees for an engineering degree from JU is the cheapest in whole of India. It is just Rs10,000 for 4 yrs bachelors of engineering degree and 1.4 lakhs for Information Technology dept(an exception). When one takes admission to JU from WBJEE rounds he/she has to pay 5400 is inclusive of 2 yrs tuition fee. There is no additional charges. It includes library fee, admission fee, all. If one takes admission through spot counseling then he /she has to pay extra 5000 counseling fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are numerous scholarship programs running by various NGOs for University students. As the fees are dirt cheap No one actually needs any loan. The most popular scholarship program here is FFE which provides average sum of around rs40,000 per year per student. It also guides students through various training and learning opportunities.

Campus Life

4.5

JU campus provides one of the best liberal campus life for students. The freedom here enjoyed by students here is unparalleled to any other institutions. This freedom comes with some responsibilities too. Labs in JU have some very expensive research instruments although some labs needs improvement too. Gender ratio in Engineering faculty is not so good with around 1 female for every 10-15 male students. Other facilities such as Science and Arts have good gender ratio. But the scene of engineering is common to all Engineering colleges in India and JU is no exception. There is a big sports competition happening all round the year in JU called "ARENA", it has multiple sports like Football, basketball, badminton, Table tennis, chess and many more. JU even has it's own Rugby team. Apart from these we have Debating club JUDC which helds JUMUN and tech fest like SRIJAN for many robotics enthusiasts. There are many departmental events for robotics such as "Convolution" of Electrical engg dept, "Spark" of ETCE and "Trajectory" of mechanical.

Hostel Facilities

4

No, I didn't opt for hostel. But I have idea of hostels alloted in University. There are 2 campus of JU - main campus in Jadavpur and salt lake campus in Salt Lake. In main campus hostel conditions are not so good and one has to share rooms with other roomates. The hygiene is just at par and sometimes not so good too. If one gets hostel in Salt Lake campus then he gets single room without sharing which is a plus point. The hostel fee is as cheap as Rs75/year and mess charges is around 1500-1800 per month.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network of various departments of Engineering is very strong here. They regularly conduct seminars and guide their juniors for training and placement. Each dept has its own well managed alumni network. It is another thing that adds feather to this university.

Admission

I gave WBJEE exam which is all bengal engineering entrance exam and Jadavpur University is the best college of choice under this exam. JU is a state govt funded University with a history of more than 100+ years. It is a premier research institute in India which tempted me to join JU. JU has the lowest fess that any institute charges for engineering degree, as low as rs10,000 for complete 4 yrs of study. If one wants to join JU, in general category he has to secure a rank less than 1500 for coveted departments and upto 2000 for other departments. There are 3 counseling rounds of WBJEE exam and a spot counseling round for JU. WBJEE exam is conducted in April/Feb every year and its form filing starts from Nov/Dec.

Faculty

4

Most of the senior faculty are well known researchers in their field and are PhD holders and decades of teaching experience in the field. Average age of faculty in engineering would be around 45. They regularly conduct industry- research seminar, meetings in all the departments. Some of the faculty even come after industry experience. In first years the basic subjects are taught by mainly research scholars.

Placement Experience:

Despite the low fee structure, my college provides a good placements. Almost every student of CSE Dept who sit for placement, gets the placement between 4lpa - 6lpa. Last year the highest package was ?12 lpa. ECE department has the lowest percentage of placements. And other engineering departments have between 60-70% placement. All the mentioned above is the description of in campus placement. Not many students of my college opt for out campus. But if they do, they get good placements as per the reports. In 2021 a student secured the job in Microsoft, with the placement of ?45 lpa (out campus).
