Remarks

Pros: 1 In the Kolkata city, one of the top ranked colleges. 2. Good placements. I got placed in BYJU for 9lpa but chose to go for MBA 3. Good college life. Lot of places and Kolkata is a cheap city. Cons: College is in a backwater locality of Kolkata Its like living in a village from where you can escape in 5 mins via auto to more plush areas Bangla speaking is an issue. Illiterate professors are screwed and will make you study some things in Bangla. Its fine. Study from YouTube instead.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

COURSE CURRICULUM WAS very very laid back during my time. But in my last year, MAKAUT the university board had given option to pursue 2-3 courses via MOOCs and that was a huge change. NSEC also gave option to learn via IITBOMBAYx, an online program where IIT Bombay offered few courses and that was to be completed.

Placement Experience

4

Placements are okay. Johnson Controls JCI recruited and offered 6 lakhs per annum. Adobe had come to recruit offering 35 lpa. Same for DirectI. Mass recruiter like TCS also came and most students were placed there. Few seniors also went to SIT siliguri to get jobs in ThoughtWorks. Many first worked in JCI and then switched to Thoughtworks. Opportunities are there.

College Events

2.5

Phoenix, the tech club tries to organize tech fests like Avenir and events like Aahvahan. It was a good competitive environment. But there is rampant politics in the tech club or any other club like Robotix etc. The college has a lively environment. Also Garia falls in the backyard of TMC, so there are many incidents in the area too.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is okay. Hostel is not there. Even if it is there, locals want to earn via PG or room rent so they don't allow hostel to become a reality. It is a backward area of Kolkata so best thing is to get a room in one of the apartment buildings like Prakritir Hansi (my old hostel) and pay minimal rent to get low cost rooms and enjoy the short short stroll to college. College charged me total 3.8 lakh rupee for my degree. Most sem fee installments were 40k except the first and second sem which were 65k and 56k. Now it may have increased to 5 lakhs.

Fees and Financial Aid

You can apply for TFW which is offered by the MAKAUT and WB board. Recently, they allowed people to be promoted without sem exams in view of COVID 19 so thats a cool one. You can also apply as a reservation category student to your own state govt and get govt funds as scholarship like one of my friends got from Bihar.

Campus Life

3

Labs are all there. Situation for core branches like Civil and Mechanical was bad during such times. Even few subject professors were missing and there was quite a lot of problems for the core branch guys to even get placement

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel is not there. Even if it is there, locals want to earn via PG or room rent so they don't allow hostel to become a reality. It is a backward area of Kolkata so best thing is to get a room in one of the apartment buildings like Prakritir Hansi (my old hostel) and pay minimal rent to get low cost rooms and enjoy the short short stroll to college. You can get wifi via Alliance or Wishnet services and get installation free for the first time. Its easily setup.

Alumni/Alumna

ALumni are good. But dont expect to reach out to such alumni who are already very senior. WHAT you see, the people you yourself interact with are the only ones who can help you out or will care enough to guide you. Some little interaction (ragging) is also there. But then its an engineering college, what do you expect.

Admission

I appeared in the exam jee mains. Got a rank of 61813 air. Did not get any nit. So filled wbjee counselling via jee mains rank. Opted for computer science. Should have filled other higher ranked colleges like techno india salt lake or heritage insti of tech.

Faculty

3.5

Faculty are good. Like there are very good faculties in IT and CSE dept. Like Anupam Banerjee sir, ex-HOD of CSE was very good. But then there were professors like Ranu Sarkar who would make it difficult for outside WB students as they had poor English themselves and wanted outside state students to learn Bangla which is not a bad thing. But who wants to be taugh algorithms or data structures in Bangla?

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin

7th semester is when the students get to sit for placements. I am not sure about the total no of companies visited but I am aware of the name of few companies like IBM Infosys Wipro Capsitech Tech Mahindra cognizant etc . Mostly the girls are 100 percent placed cause there is diversity hiring. Mass recruiters is what visit our campus mostly.. I personally would look for a job after graduation highest package offered displayed by college is 75 lpa but I don't think so it is real. Maybe someone had worked hard and got placed off campus. On campus highest isbi guess 12-14 lpa

Course Curriculum Overview:

- I choose Data Science as it is new to my college when comparing with the other branches. The curriculum is just okay it is not per industry standards but if students deep drives in each aspects then they are likely to crack GATE exams. - The whole curriculum needs and improvement from the very 1st Year and removal of irrelevant subjects like Discrete Mathematics, Electonics, Biology for IT branches are required. - Semester exams are conducted every 6 months and CTs are conducted every 2 months

Wide no of companies visited our campus around 180+ and made around 580+ offers to the students. The highest salary was 58LPA which was offered by DE Shaw and the highest accepted salary was 51LPA in Microsoft. The average package rolls roughly around 10-12 LPA.The profile offered include SDE roles, management roles, finance in some cases. The overall placement percentage was around 80% with Branches like electrical and metallurgy moving above 90% followed by CSE and ECE in the mid 80s while for biotech and civil the placement percentage are generally below 70.My plans after getting the degree is to land a job offer from on campus placements.Therefafter maybe look out for and MBA from top B schools of india.
