Remarks
They are accommodating of any extracurricular and academic initiatives but are overly authoritative and not transparent at all. They do not take the student body or Student Council's inputs on policy work or other related aspects and ignore other important stakeholder such as the parents of the students too which is not a good practice and doesn't create a good environment overall.
Entrance Preview
I took the LSAT India, any entrance exam for private law schools in India. I'd been active in elocution and other public speaking activities in school due to which a number of teachers and family members suggetsed that I go to law school. There was no interview process for admisisons but the scholarship application process included an interview.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum mostly involved compulsory law subjects mandated by the concerned regulatory body. There were some electives too which revolved around various subjects in Indian and international law such as international taxation, contract drafting, international criminal law, research methodology, law and social theory, advanced economics, entertainment law, comparative tax systems, etc.
Internships Opportunities
Some law firms and organisations offered internships to students. Major international law firms such as White & Case and Baker & McKenzie, domestic law firms like AZB Partners & Co, Amarchand Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan offered internships. Organisations such as Deloitte India and Jindal Steel Works offered internships too. I mostly interned under High court and trial court advocates who did not provide stipends.
Placement Experience
From my batch 5 people have been placed so far, at the law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. Among seniors, this firm and other firms such as Nishith Desai Associates, Lex Favios, Luthra & Luthra, AZB & Partners had come to campus to place them. Packages vary between 12 to 16 lacs an annum depending on the firm.
College Events
There is an annual Sports Fest named Magnus which sees participation form over 700 students from colleges across the country. There is an annual cultural Fest named Biswamil that sees participation from over 1000 students from colleges across the country. The annual inter-college debate has a good standing and reputation among the debating circuit and draws the best debators from the country.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Our fee structure is six lacs an annum. For juniors it has increased to 7.5 lacs an annum. They offer merit as well as need based scholarships and studentships too.
Fees and Financial Aid
Loans are not offered by the college and have to be procured by the students themselves. 2 people in every batch get a 100% scholarship, based on merit. A few other people get a 25% studentship. I have availed this studentship.
Campus Life
Gender ratios are very close to 50-50, about 55-45.Because of the fee structure most people belong to the upper economic class though a number of people from the middle class also study here through loans and scholarships.Racially the crowd is metropolitan and a number of international students from different continents study here. Politically there is a lot of debating and discussion going on, academically and practically too. The college does to some extent incentivize debating and other public speaking activities. The college has a good debating standard and culture. As alcohol and tobacco are not allowed on campus there aren't hostel parties as such but there are frequent internal cultural events that see wide participation.
Hostel Facilities
Everyone has to compulsorily stay in the hostel. Two people stat in one room. The rooms are somewhat small but comfortable. The hostel fees are included within the overall feel figure mentioned above. The mess food is provided by Sodexo, a French multinational, and is barely edible. They cannot manage catering to 2000 students and they generally do a despicable job.
Alumni/Alumna
Since its a young college and only four batches have passed out so far there is no alumni network yet but it is in the pipelines as some people are planning to form one. The initiative has been taken up recently and the alumni who are working and living close to the college have been working hard to set up the alumni network for the benefit of the current students and the college too.The seniors in college have always been very friendly and accommodating and have helped juniors out in every aspect including academics, sports, extracurriculars, and so on. There is no ragging or other such activities taking place and seniors and juniors often form good, lasting bonds and friendships without any inhibitions that are present in most colleges. Seniors do get respect from juniors though. A number of the seniors who are now alumni have become top notch professionals in their fields and are doing very well for themselves at their jobs or in their professional practices which will lead to the building of a good professional network for the college during the coming years, according to me. A lot of the seniors have also gone abroad for post graduation at leading universities across the world. A number of them are doing policy drafting or legislation related work while quite a few are doing legal research fellowships and are working on it quite well.
Exam Structure
The exam schedule is spaced out so we have enough time to prepare and also get a preparation week before exams. It's hence relatively chilled out. Some exams are open book while some are closed book. The assessment standards are somewhat strict for everyone and expectation of most professors are pretty high.
Faculty
Most of the faculty has been increidble, especially the ones we had in our initial couple of years. Faculty who have studied and taught at the best law schools around the world have been teaching us and a number of academicians who are the leading authorities in their field globally are also common.
