Remarks
Good remarks: 1) The placements are really good. 2) The courses are up to date. 3) Lecturers are very friendly and help you out if you're finding anything difficult. 4) The people here are diverse and it is really fun being with such people. 5) They have the best fests, infrastructure etc. Bad remarks: 1) A little too strict about stuff like wearing ID cards the entire time, curfews like non-hostellites can't stay in campus after 8/9 pm, and female hostellites have a curfew time of 7pm while male hostellites have a curfew time of 9pm. 2) Constant construction which gets annoying.
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is relevant to industry specific needs. The subjects are very relevant to the real world topics and make us a better professional. Subjects like Data structures, algorithms, computer networks and operating systems are taught which will help us a lot during the placements. No, industrial visits aren't organised for CSE department.
Placement Experience
The placements for CS from our college is one of the best in Bangalore. many reputed companies like microsoft, Citrix, Oracle etc visit our campus for recruitment. College has an initiative called PESU PPT which is the pre-placement training that is a test for our aptitude and coding skills(MCQs), also we have a special topic course called Software Skills, where they prepare us for coding interviews etc.
College Events
PES hosts one of the biggest fests in Bangalore (or Karnataka, if you will) called TAS(The Amateur Scientist) and AT(Aatmatisha). AT is a massive fest where artists like Benny Dayal, Amit Trivedi, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Vishal-Shekhar etc. are called for concerts and comics like Saurabh Pant, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Aakash Gupta, Varun Thakur etc are called for Stand-ups. They are also high budget fests which grab attention to even a lot of outsiders. TAS is basically a competition where young minds from schools showcase their forte in many branches of science at a professional level to win. It consists of competitions like Science Expo, Code Wars, Shark Tank, Quizzes in various domains etc. Apart from this there are also inter college fests like Epsilon which is to showcase our projects, ideas etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
If you get in through PESSAT, the fee is around 3.25 Lakhs per annum currently, but when I got in, it was 3 Lakhs per annum. If you get in through KCET, it is around 1 Lakh per annum. Not sure if the college provides transparency in the fee-breakdown. There will be additional payments for re-taking exams if you fail. But they also provide various scholarships like CNR Rao scholarship, MRD scholarship and also a bunch of stupid reservation scholarships (Yep, I am a General Merit student).
Fees and Financial Aid
The college offers various scholarships like CNR Rao scholarship, MRD scholarship and also a bunch of stupid reservation scholarships (Yep, I am a General Merit student). Usually CNR is awarded to the top 20% of the student in that particular year for that particular year and course. MRD is awarded to the top 5% of the students in that year and course. They are awarded every semester. The average sum for PESSAT student per sem is around 37k The average sum for KCET student per sem is around 10k
Campus Life
The campus life is amazing, but the only problem is there's always skme construction that keeps happening, but this time they are building a huge building, so the construction noises, dust etc are very annoying and also the frequent diversions to reach our block due the construction is annoying. The gender ratio is almost the same. there is no ragging at all, as the college totally prohibits it. There are many competitions that are held like inter college sports competition. There aren't any parties per se, but they aren't very strict about enjoying a lot in college. There is a political bias towards BJP, but otherwise it seems alright. People of different races, religions are there and all of us mingle without any discrimination etc. The people here are just amazing. The friends here are amazing. The road trips, random hangouts and party plans etc are so much fun and I will miss these with all my heart. Overall I can say that though PES is kinda like some school because they check ID cards and stuff. it has been a wonderful time campus wise and education wise. it has shaped me into what I am today, and I don't regret selecting this college for my engineering. Cheers.
Alumni/Alumna
The seniors and alumni help us academically and are also amazing friends. They help us with our college projects, guide us to ace exams, placements etc.
Admission
I chose computer science engineering in PES as it is the hottest course right now. Also because PES University is the best for computer science in Bangalore (with regards to placement as well). I got in by writing the university's entrance exam called PESSAT, after which followed a counselling to select the course of choice based on the ranks secured.
Faculty
Not sure about how many lecturers we have, but I can say with confidence that we have more than enough lecturers. few of them are doctors, while most of them have done M-Tech. I would rate the teaching standards as 3.5/5, they aren't great not very bad. they are just pretty good. But a few teachers are extraordinarily good and make sure that the concept reaches us clearly. A few lecturers also have a lot of industry experience which also makes it better while learning from that particular lecturer.
