Ramakrishna Mission Residential College: Review

It is one of the best colleges in West Bengal. It may not have the best faculties but the teacher-student relationship is at its best and very well managed hostels which helps you to give the maximum effort on study.

1. The syllabus is made according to the UGC guidelines and highly effective for the postgraduate entrance examinations. 2. Each year is divided into 2 semesters and thus 6 semesters in total in your course. 3. From this year the cources are being made following the CBCS pattern as per UGC regulation. 4. You have to attend atleast 75% classes to become eligible to give the semester examinations. 5. You can get every books for the course fron library for a semester and additional books in short term.

1. This institute gives you B.Sc. or B.A. and M.Sc. or M.A. degree which is not actually that much job oriented. But in recent years the authority is arranging some counseling in collaboration with L&T, TCS etc. 2. You can get internships from internsala.com, authority has collaboration with them. 3. There are chances to get stipends for needy but meritorious students. I, myself also got a concession on fees and that's very much helpful. If you're too needy and can prove it to the college authority you may have 100% concession on all fees.

1. Annual Intracollege drama competition between the hostels (Bhabanas). 2. Inter-college competitions organised by the different departments. As I studied Physics there the Event of our development was Sci-Phy where several other colleges were been invited for a inter-college Physics quiz and Paper Presentation. 3. Departments also organize few talks and seminars and students from different colleges are been invited. 3. A blood donation camp is organised every year by the authority and in some times the most numbers of students donate blood than other camps. 4. TB seal selling event is organized under the NSS department. 5. All National events and some religious events are celebrated too.

Fee structure is very much well organised. It's easy feasible. Currently they are charging 2700/- for hostel, food and other college charges. Only 111/- for tution fees. Rest is the hostel fee including 4 times food.

There is a scholarship scheme for needy students. At the time of admission you will have to provide the income and asset details if you want to avail scholarship. The amount of scholarship is decided after verifying the income documents and discussing with you. For extremely needy students the scholarship is 100% compensation from all fees.

1. Labs are well supplied as the college does not completely depends on government funding. You can use the labs freely for research or project purposes other than practicals on syllabus. 2. The authority encourages extracurricular activities. There are drama competition, art competitions, singing competitions and many others. Every hostel publish there wall magazines 3 or 4 times in a year. Departments have their own wall magazines. There are awards for both best magazines. College also publish a yearly magazine 'Abhih'. You can choose NSS or NCC as your extracurricular activity. 3. Inter departmental football and cricket tournaments are organised every year. There are college teams to play in University leagues. Interdepartmental Table Tennis is also organised by the authority. In sports day there are athletic competitions including swimming are organised. There are well equipped gymnasium for all and a big swimming pool.

As it is a residential college you must have to stay in hostel. The environment is study friendly and if you want there is a facility of studying in big study halls. The hostel fee is only 2300/- (approximately, because the rate changes every year) including food (breakfast, lunch, tiffin in afternoon and dinner) and other expences. They don't charge any extra fee for anything.

There are an alumni association named Mahavidyalaya Praktoni. An annual reunion and convocation are organized at the end of December. The alumni association is very helpful. You can contact and join them after passing the college.

I got admission there by clearing the entrance examination. There were few criterion: 1. You must have 75% overall marks Higher Secondary or equivalent examination and also 75% marks in the subject you want to graduate. 2. There will be a entrance examination from which few marks will be taken and adding with the marks, you got in 12th, there will be your score out of 100 and based on that marks the authority will publish a merit list and a waiting list ( The exat rules may differ year to year). 3. According to merit list you will be called for counseling in a particular date and time. 4. If you got a chance to get admission you will be asked to pay the admission charge on that day o? within few days.

1. The faculties are good and experienced. 2. As the number of students in each class is much less than other colleges, the teachers can give individual attention to the students. 3. They discuss every problems related to your subject in class or in leisure. 4. You can contact the teachers at leisure time for better understanding on a topic. 5. You will get a career counseling from the teachers in detail.
